Two Bulls score hat-tricks in win The Thamesford Trojan goalie recovers from a shot at the home goal during the second period of the Junior “D” game in Brussels on Sunday, while one of the Brussels Bulls and another Trojan tangle behind the net. The Bulls won the sixth game of the season 10-7. Blyth finally gets ringette team After several years of trying, Blyth finally has a Ringette team. What is Ringette? It’s girls answer to hockey. The game structure is much the same as hockey with a few exceptions. The game is played with a rubber ring instead of a puck. The stick the girls use is straight (has no hook on the end). The two defence players use red sticks, the two forwards use blue sticks and the centre uses a white stick. The goalie uses a regular goalie stick. The defence and forwards have their own zones that they must stay in, the centre can go anywhere. For quite a few years now Bonnie Cronyn of RR 2, Blyth has had a keen interest in Ringette and has been a strong supporter of her daughter Margaret and Julie Howson who both played Ringette for Seaforth. This year Bonnie and Julie will coach a Novice Ringette Team (nine and under). The team is registered with ORA (Ontario Ringette Association) as is coach Julie and the girls will play in a Huron Perth League with the majority of games being played with Exeter and several with Goderich and Seaforth. Margaret and Julie are both qualified referees. As well Karli Yanchus (a ringette lover who has no team to play with) may help out with some of the training. The girls’ practice and home games will be Saturdays at 12 noon. The first practice will be on Nov. 1. Team members consist of Amanda Anderson, Christina Black, Karen Bromley, Marie Cronyn, Kathy Fraser, Julie Mc- Nichol, Candice McNichol, Kim Richmond, Pauline Stewart, Jill Walden and Shawna Walker. There is room on the team for several more players. If you know of someone who is interested give Bonnie or Julie a call. Because of a love of the sport and an unyielding persistence, Bonnie Cronyn has her team. The com munity can now show Bonnie and Julie it is behind them and come out to the games. The schedule will be printed at a later date. —mi— BY LOIS McARTER The Brussels Bulls Jr. “D” team came up with a tie on Friday night as they visited the Mitchell Hawks. The game was almost five minutes old before the first goal was scored. Kevin McArter assist ed by Blake Flett and Dave Harding connected for that goal. There was just 2:54 remaining when Paul Robinson assisted by Tim Fritz and Blake Flett, scored to end the period at 2 - 0 for Brussels. Mitchell came out in the second to quickly score at the 40-second mark and added the second goal just four minutes later. Kevin Lee assisted by Paul Robinson and Troy Smith scored at the 12:46 mark to give Brussels the go-ahead goal. Just three minutes later Marty Rutledge assisted by Robin son and Smith added another goal fortheBulls. Nofurther scoring took place in the second period with the score being 4 - 2 in our favour. The third period was half over before Mitchell added another goal. Kevin McArter assisted by Paul Robinson and Kevin Lee scored at the 7:25 mark for Brussels to make the score 5 - 3. Mitchell scored at the 4:37 mark and less than a minute later added another goal to tie the score. The remainder of the period stayed scoreless and the team came home with a 5 - 5 tie. The third period has been causing the Bulls some . trouble but hopefully that will soon be remedied. Those people who chose the cold arenaoverabrightsunny after noon on Sunday were treated to fast end-to-end high scoring first two periods of hockey. Two of the Brussels Bulls scored the hat-trick in those two periods of play. Troy Smith had missed the exhibition games and the first three league games but he made up for his absence in a hurry. The game was only 45 seconds old when he scored his first goal assisted by Blake Flett. At the 13:04 mark, he added his second goal assisted by Doug Taylor and David Harding. Thamesford scored their first goal at the 9:06 mark. Troy Smith completed his hat-trick unassisted just a minute and 20 seconds later. Kevin McArter assisted by Tim Fritz scored his first goal at the 7:36 mark of the period. Paul Robinson assisted by Marty RutledgeandTroy Smith added the Bulls’ fifth goal. Kevin McArt er assisted by Kevin Johnston scored his second goal of the period at 5:17 which finally ended the scoring and the period at 6 -1 for a Brussels lead. Thamesford opened the scoring in the second period but Brussels’ Paul Robinson scored on a box play formation from Kevin Lee and Tim Fritz. Thamesford slipped two more goals past goalie Pat Cham bers before Troy Smith picked up his fourth goal on a pass from Marty Rutledge at 4:28.
