Blyth Block Parents hold poster contest people across the country are actively involved in the safety and crime prevention program, giving rise to the national theme for the week, “Be one in a million.” Blyth Block Parents are observ­ ing this week by exhibiting posters done by all grades at the Blyth The Block Parent Program has good reason tocelebrate during National Block Parent Week, October 20-26: over one million Winners in the Blyth Block Parents “Hallowe’en Safety” poster contest display their work in front of their school. From left, the prize winners are: Charlene Tisseur, kindergarten; Corey Shannon, Grade 1; Jill Walden, Grade 2; Wanda Emke, Grade 3; Jodee Medd, Grade 4; Brian Machan, Grade 5; Mike McNichol, Grade 6; and Kelly Cook, Grade 8. The Grade 7 winner, Karli Yanchus, was absent when the photo was taken. With the students are Joan Clark, left, Block Parent Chairman, and judge Sheilla Wallace. Public School, on the theme “Hallowe’en Safety.” Block Par­ ent co-chairperson Joan Clark said that nearly every child in the school entered the contest, making it very difficult to choose only one winner from each grade. The winning posters are on display at The Blithe Spirit Tea Room and The Citizen, andeach winner received a new silver dollar as a prize. The contest was judged by Sheilla Wallace, proprietor of the Blithe Spirit, who also donated the prizes. The familiar red and white Block Parent signs are displayed in 57 homes in Blyth, where the program is in its second year. Elementary Please contribute to. use® Canada! school children have been made aware of the program through discussions at the school and through work with OPP Constable John Marshall, Commmunity Ser­ vice Officer with the Goderich detachment. Younger children have also been taken on walks around their neighbourhood, so that they are aware of the homes offering comfort and shelter in an emergency.
