PAGE 19 Blyth Threshermen hold awards banquet One hundred and fifty members of the Huron Pioneer Thresher and Hobby Association Inc. attended the annual banquet last Friday at the Blyth Memorial Hall, where they feasted on a turkey dinner catered by the ladies of the Blyth Legion Auxiliary. Members came from as far away as London, Kitchener, Cambridge and Owen Sound to celebrate the 25th year of the steam show, and awards won at the show in September were presented. President Bill Vincent MC’d the event, while his father, Clare Vincent kept the crowd alternately enthralled and in stitches with his dramatic recitations and jokes. Blyth Reeve Albert Wasson brought greetings from the town, Ross Calder of Cambridge thanked the ladies of the Auxiliary, dinner music was provided by Dave ChittickandGraceLamont, and dance music was Dy Dave Chittick and his Band from Hanover. Don Snell of Kitchener, in recognition of 25 years of service to the Association. It was presented by president Bill Vincent, right, on behalf of the Association, Friday night. Shirley is a homemaker, wife, and mother of two, who enjoys cooking and in 1978 she turned her cooking into a profession and became a cooking consultant. She has conducted many cooking class­ es and demonstrations in stores, at fairs and exhibitions throughout Southern Ontario. Eventhough Shirley is kept busy with her profession, she still finds time to create new and better dishes for her family. “Miracles in Microwaves’’ a cookbook of which Shirley is author includes both microwave and conventional cooking as well as several delicious recipes such as cabbage rolls, pineapple spare- ribs, chicken wings, stuffed mush­ rooms, jams, sauces, soups, sea­ food and pastas, vegetables and desserts, plus much much more. Many techniques and tips such as how to buy a microwave oven, differences between conventional, convection, and microwave cook­ ing, converting recipes, cover or not to cover food, how microwaves work, cooking meat, browning in the microwave, combination cook­ ing, baked goods in the microwave and standing time are some of the topics found in her book and will also be discussed .
