Knox celebrates Thanksgivin g Grey Central girls won the championship of the North Huron Soccer Tournament held at Ethel Friday. Members of the teams are: [front row, left to right] Lisa Hiusser, Louise Brubacher, Stacey Boyd, Judy Read, Tracy Finch, Colleen Kuepfer, Ratsamy Larprom; [back row] Mr. Livermore, coach, Vicki Oster, Liz Prescott, Sandy Earl, Ann Morton, Melanie Vermeer, Dana Gibbons, Sibylle Menzi, Mary Wall and Mr. Garland, Coach. A piano organ prelude of inspiring Thanksgiving hymns with Mrs. George Johnston, pian ist and Mrs. George Procter as organist welcomed members of Knox United Church and their visitors to the combined Commun ion-Thanksgiving October 12, Sun day morning service. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Cook greeted members as they entered. The sanctuary and vestibule were tastefully decorated with variegated floral arrangements, tables laden with varied veget ables and windowsill bud vases containing multi-coloured minia ture flowers. Rev. John G. Roberts chose Scripture passages from Isaiah and Revelations, using * ‘ I am the Alpha and Omega; the Beginning and End” as the theme verse. He alluded to the Thanksgiving decorations and asked “What particular harvest is represent ed?’’ “We give thanks and rightfully so, but if that is all then many people with crop failures will be disappointed. Habakkuk says, “Even though all fails, I will rejoice in the God of Salvation.” Circumstances are not always in our favour, but it is vital to remind ourselvesof the essence of Thanks giving, God is in control. A table of fruits represents confidence. Underneath are the Everlasting Arms. This is what Thanksgiving is all about. What is the connection with Communion? Communion means Eucharist which means Thanks giving. The Sacrament of Com munion points to the Past, to Jesus’ death, but is not a celebration of mourning. It is a Sacrament of Fellowship, as a family gathering. Think of the Sacrament in terms ofa Great Home Coming banquet. I am the Omega and I am the Alpha - the End and the Beginning. The large choir sang “O Give Thanks’’. The offertory plates were passed by Chris McIntosh, Corey McKee, Harvey Black and John R. Taylor. The elders who served the Communion were Mrs. Laura Johnston, Mrs. JohnMcIntosh, Mrs. Ross Anderson, Murray Scott Ross Higgins and Clifford Coultes. Hymns relative to the Commun ion-Thanksgiving celebration were sung with piano-organ accompaniment. These girls from Brussels and Belgrave schools got a real kick out of the North Huron soccer tournament held at Grey Central School in Ethel on Friday. Grey and Howick schools split the titles, the boys to Howick and the girls to Grey. WMS discusses Thanksgiving The W.M.S. held their meeting on Monday, October 6 at the home of Mrs. Margaret Dunbar. An invitation was read to attend Whitechurch United Church on October 15 at 2 p.m. Mrs. Scott read a letter of thanks and the new calendars were there for sale.
