PATT NUNN ANGLIC AN PARISH PRIEST BRUSSELS, BLYTH, AUBURN This week we will celebrate not only our national Thanksgiving holiday, but in some Christian communities, also the ancient Harvest Festival. For many of us we look around - and see the blessedness of God. In many ways our lives have been touched by God’s hand and with this knowledge we can never live again as though we were alone. On the other hand, we also experience problems and heart aches and we hunger for meaning and dignity in our lives. We experience none of this without the compassionate love of God that embraces us in the worst as well as the best of times. God’s love therefore calls us to be in relation ship with all God’s children, our Bly th United joins in worldwide communion Worldwide communion Sunday was observed in Blyth United Church on Oct. 19. Mr. Bauman based his sermon on Paul’s message to Timothy in Second Timothy, Chapter 1, verses 1-14. He stressed the need of fellowship among Christians. The choir sang “God reveals his presence’’. John Sanderson, Wil liam Young, Melda McElroy, Vera brothers and sisters. They also have needs, desires and problems. They also hunger for meaning and dignity. Particu larly, as we celebrate this coming weekend may we be open to knowing the real gifts of life, the loving relationships, the caring support and the concerned invol ve- ment of others. As the people of Canada, we truly know the full meaning of Thanksgiving. The gifts we receive are so numerous and freely given that we often overlook them completely. People who work with their hands, particularly farmers and their families, are very much in the forefront of our minds these days. As we give thanks, we want to celebrate the gifts of health and strength to work with those hands and the intelligence to know what to do with them. In this time of thanksgiving, our Badley, John Blake, Dick Poore, Harvey Snell and Earl Fyfe were the serving elders. Mary and Fred Howson were the greeters. The Sunday School students are bringing gifts for “Survival Through Friendship House’’ in Goderich and will worship with the congregation next Sunday. Store coupons are also being collected for this centre. thoughts focus on God’s goodness and on the material things which make life enjoyable and pleasant for which we are properly grateful. Let us broaden our thanks, though, to include the experience of finding new worth and feeling good about ourselvesthroughthe covenant, relationship of love with God by which we have become God’s people.
