Brussels Squirts lose close final series After a season of trying hard, but failing to come up on the winning end of the score sheet, the Brussels Squirt boys team had a very exciting round of playoffs. In a two out of three series against Belgrave, they defeated them two games straight. Without any co-operation from the weather, they managed to complete their B Bulls' Sponsored by Blue Water Chapter Order of the Eastern Star No. 284 Goderich 2 lcn* 1 1 COL^OK^e TOWNSJIKPTOWNSHKP SE opener Friday The Brussels Jr. D. hockey club has been busy preparing for the 1986-87season. Trainingcamp has ended and the final selection of players is almost complete. Last season the Bulls finished second in their division, opening the schedule with an incredible 14 game winning streak. During the Christmas break they won the annual Exeter Junior D tourna ment. Unfortunately their year ended on a disappointing note as they were quickly eliminated from the playoffs. This year the Juniors will play in a five-team grouping with Mit chell, Seaforth, Clinton and Exe ter. An interlocking schedule will be played against Lucan, Thed ford, Belmont, Mt. Brydges and Thamesford for a total of 42 games. The Brussels Bulls home opener is scheduled for Friday, October 10 at 9 p.m. against the defending All-OntarioChampion Seaforth Centennaires. championship round against Clin ton. It proved to be an evenly matched series, going right to the fifth and deciding game. The final nerve-racking game was played in Clinton on Sunday, Sept. 28. At the end of the seventh inning the score was tied 2-2. The players were handling the tension better than the parents as they took the field for the eighth inning. Even though they played like pros the outcome was 5-4 for Clinton. Whether they won or not these boys should be very proud of what they accomplished. The team consisted of Devon Henry, Kent Bray, Danny McNeil, Johnny Miners, Brad Beuermann, Jay Hahn, David Strickler, Bobby Steiss, David Jacklin, Robyn Som ers, Brian Stevenson, Ross Mach- an and Tim Machan. Special thanks should go to Carman Machan and Lome Strick ler for coaching. Also Dale Machan for helping out in the play-offs.
