Selective demand on cattle at Brussels The market at Brussels Stock- yards on Friday traded on a selective demand with medium and heavy cattle under pressure. Cows and feeder pigs traded steady. There were 1309 cattle and 733 pigs on offer. Choice steers sold from $81.50 to $85.50 with sales to $90.75 per hundredweight. Good steers were $78 to $81.50. A steer consigned by Ed Mi­ chaels of RR 1, Sebringville weighing 1160 lbs. sold for $90.75 with his offering of 20 mixed steers averaging 1169 lbs. selling for an overall price of $84.09. Forty-four steers consigned by Murray Shiell of RR 3, Wingham averaging 1174 lbs. sold for an overall price of $85.43 with sales to $86.50. Three steers consigned by Bev Schenk of RR 1, Neustadtaveraging 1060 lbs. sold for an overall price of $85.90. Twenty-six steers consigned by Ralph and Roger Morrison of RR 1, Lucknow averaging 1081 lbs. sold for an overall price of $83.85 with sales to $85. Thirty-six steers consigned by Ken McClinchey of RR 3, Parkhill averaging 1230 lbs. sold for an overall price of $83.53 with sales to $87. Twenty-eight mixed steers con­ signed by Maple Emblem Farms of RR 1, Dungannon averaging 1184 lbs. sold for an overall price of $82.40 with sales to $85.25. Fourteen steers consigned by Jim Poortinga of RR 1, Woodham averaging 1063 lbs. sold for an overall price of $82.37. Fifteen steers consigned by Jack Bowman of RR 5, Brussels averaging 1161 lbs. sold for $82. Eight steers consigned by Stew­ art Knechtel of RR 2, Gadshill averaging 1041 lbs. soldfor$82.30. Twenty-six steers including some very heavy steers consigned by Jim Howatt of RR 1, Londesborough averaging 1329 lbs. sold for an overall price of $81.19. Choice exotic heifers sold from $80 to $84 with a sale to $93.25. Choice white-faced heifers were $77 to $81. A heifer consigned by Rae McPhail of RR 3^ Kerwood weigh­ ing 1110 lbs. topped the market at $93.75 with his offering of 20 heifers averaging 1165 lbs. selling for an overall price of $83.93. Soil conservation advisor named Brent Kennedy has been recent­ ly appointed as OMAF’s Senior Soil Conservation Advisor for Huron County at the Agricultural Office, Clinton. Brent is a native of Sudbury and a 1985 Soil Science graduate of the University of Guelph. He has been working for the past year and a half as a Soil Conservation Advisor with OM AF at the Perth County office in Stratford. Brent succeeds Jane Sadler Richards who accepted a position with Ecologistics - Lon­ don, earlier. As Senior Soil Conservation Advisor, Brent will be responsible for the erosion control portion of the Ontario Soil Conservation and Environment Protection Assis­ tance Program and will be working closely with the Conservation District, Huron County Soil and Crop Improvement Association. Twenty heifers consigned by George Blake of RR 2, Brussels averaging 1126 lbs. sold for an overall price of $82.51 with a sale to $84.75. Fifty-two heifers consign­ ed by Cliff Cook of Granton averaging 1115 lbs. sold for an overall price of $82.27 with sales to $84.25. Eight heifers consigned by Triple A Farms of RR 3, Clinton averaging 1004 lbs. sold for an overall price of $82.22. Nine heifers consigned by Elmer Riley of RR 4, Walkerton averaging 1139 lbs. sold for $81.85. Eleven heifers consigned by John Jacques of RR 2, Clifford averaging 1004 lbs. sold for an overall price of $81.87 with a sale to $85. Sixteen heifers consigned by Lome Hackett of RR3, Lucknow averaging 988 lbs. sold for an overall price of $81.13 with sales to $82.30. Seven heifers consigned by Gordon Daer of RR 1, Auburn averaging 1044 lbs. sold for an overall price of $81.62 with sales to $82.85. Seven heifers consigned by Tom Wylie of RR 4, Durham averaging 948 lbs. sold for an overall price of $81.40 with a sale at $83. Twenty-three heifers consign­ ed by Cliff Rollings of RR 2, Lucan averaging 1091 lbs. sold for an overall price of $80.74 with sales to $81.35. Choice cows sold from $50 to $53. Good cows were $46 to $50. Canners and cutters were $42 to $46. Pigs under 30 lbs. traded to a high of $1.50 per lb.; 30 to 40-lb. pigs traded to a high of $1.52; 40 to 50-lb. pigs to a high of $1.35; 50 to 60-lb. pigs to a high of $1.27; 60 to 70-lb. pigs to a high of $1.20; 70 to 80-lb. pigs to a high of $1.04 per lb.
