The Knox United Church Wom­ en held their general meeting on September 25 at the Church. Miss Betty Marsh opened the meeting with a skit. Other mem­ bers taking part were Mrs. John Durnin, Mrs. Dana Bean and Mrs. J ack Armstrong. The audience was involved also and learned “How to be a Leader’’. Suggestions were given on getting everyone involved planning a good program and gaining confidence in your work. Miss Marsh handed out differ­ ent assignments and the three groups had to layout their plans for the assignment. Miss Marsh then spokeaboutleadersinthe Bible and Mrs. Allan Webster read passages (re) Moses who became a leader and Mrs. Oliver Anderson read the scripture (re) early followers and the dsrbiples of Jesus. Miss Marsh closed with this motto, “Christian leadership is the act of serving others,’’ and led in prayer. Offering was received by Mrs. Jack Armstrong and Mrs. Oliver Anderson. Worship closed with the reading together of, “Lord Speak to me.’’ ThevicepresidentMrs. Dana Bean then conducted the business meeting. Mrs. Peter Verbeek led a Memorial Service in honour of one of the group’s late members, Mrs. B. Marsh who is sadly missed. The minutes were read and treasurer’s report given. The Presbyterial meeting will be held Tuesday, September 30 at Nile. Mrs. E. Rodger, Mrs. Don Haines, Mrs. Barry Millian will give our music presentation. The London Conference is to be at the Pearce Williams Centre at Fingal and expenses for those attending are to be paid by the U.C.W. The Thankoffering service is to be October 22 and the village ladies, Blyth, Nile and Dungannon are to be invited. Mrs. Bean closed the meeting with prayer, “Faith is Beauty". It was the first meeting for “Milk Makes It’’ with approximately 17 members present. The club’s leader is Rosemary Kibble with assistant leader Glenyce McClin­ chey. Election of officers was held with following results: President, Ton­ ya Boonstoppel; Vice President, Denise Gross; Secretary, Anita Gross; Press Reporter, Julia Glenn. The roll call, which was United Church news The minister Gary T. Shuttle­ worth conducted the morning service at Knox United Church on Sunday. Lori Millian was organist. Call to Worship, prayer and Life and Work of the Church were given. The Junior choir sang “Be Wise’’, under the direction of Mrs. Allan Webster and Mrs. Gordon Gross as pianist. There was a children’s period after which they went to their Sunday School rooms with their teachers. Auburn news briefs Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Anderson spent last weekend with their son William at Newmarket. Mr. Paul Popp of Londesboro had his appendix removed in Clinton Hospital last week. Mr. James Towe of London and formerly of Auburn passed away in his 86th year. Burial was in Ball Cemetery, Auburn. Our sympathy goes out to the family. Mrs. Mary Young of Goderich and formerly of Auburn is a patient in Clinton Public Hospital. Mrs. George Beattie, former Auburn teacher and daughter-in- law Mrs. George Beattie of Union ville, called on former pupils in Auburn area recently. She was the former Marie Welsh. Holy Communion will be cele­ brated at Knox United Church, October 5. Happy Birthday to Ellen John­ ston who celebrated her 88th birthday on Saturday. Mrs. Tom Haggitt, Lillian Leath­ erland and Mrs. Robert Peck arrived home after a two day trip to Manitoulin Island.
