The Brussels Legion Pipe Band has been busy lately. They have had two parades. On September 20, they participated in the Luck­ now Fall Fair parade and on September 27th, they participated in the Ripley Fall Fair parade. It is nice to know that the band is so popular. On September 20th, the Ladies’ Auxiliary went to Goderich to participate in the Zone C Dart tournament. Goderich, team 1, won firstplace, Exeter, team3, won second place and Goderich, team 3, won third place. One Brussels team made it by coming in seventh. Margo Richardson, Bon- ie Brewer, Jayne Ross and Bessie Blenkhorn get to proceed to the next tournament in Galt on April 4, 1987. Good luck, ladies. In other business, Dave Johnson of Johnson Engineering Consult­ ants of Stratford was present to discuss the McArthur and Parker Municipal Drains. There were four tenders receiv­ ed for the work on the drain. Council agreed that the tender from Nelson Ryan Construction, RR 2, Brussels at a tender price of $3,300 be accepted. Construction is to begin in October and be complete by December 1986. There were two tenders submit­ ted for the Parker Drain. The tender submitted by Robert Nich­ olson of Sebringville was accepted by council for the open portion of the Parker Drain at a tender price of $4,482 with construction to com­ mence October 25 and be complete by December 31, 1986 weather permitting. Council also accepted the tender submitted by Robert Schmidt Farm Drainage, Miidmay, for the construction of the closed portion of the Parker Drain at a tender price of $4,302 plus $1,250 for extras if required with construction to begin byOctober 1 andbecompleteby November 15, 1986. Ron Moore, Assessment Com­ missioner and Ted Ingham were in attendance from the regional assessment office in Goderich to discuss with council the equaliza­ tion factor for Morris Township. The equalization factor is used for cost sharing for the calculations of the county and School Board levies and grant calculations. It is based on the equalized assessment for the municipality. Class No. 2 land in Morris Township is valued at $800 per acre. Council was told. Mr. Moore advised the council that the ratio of the factor for Morris Township is approximately the same in the County of Huron. Council voted that Road Superintendent Lloyd Michie be authorized to tender for snowplowing for the 1986-87 sea­ son. Lloyd Michie told the council that Larry Struthers from the Ministry of the Environment visit­ ed the waste disposal site on September 10 and feels thatthe face of the site is too high and the waste is not being compacted properly. He has requested that afterthesiteiscovered the next week, that he be contacted and he will inspect the site at that time. Blenkhorn who won one of the 50/50 draws in Goderich on September 20. September 27, four teams from Brussels Ladies’ Auxiliary went to Blyth to participate in the Zone C Euchre tournament. Exeter, team 2, won first place, Goderich, team 5, won second place and Exeter, team 1, won third place. Unfortu­ nately, none of the Brussels teams placed in the top ten. Meetings for October are: Lad­ ies Auxiliary, Monday, October 6 at 8 p.m., Legion executive meeting, Tuesday, October 14 at 8:30 p.m. and the Legion general meeting on Monday, October 20 at 8:30 p.m. Keep in mind the Ceilidh coming up on October 18. Tickets are $5.00 per person and are available from Band members or at the door. Musicwillbe provided by Norm Dunsmoor. There will be a lunch after the dance. Come out and support the Pipe Band.
