The ribbon was cut on Sunday afternoon to open the new lodge room of St. Johns Masonic Lodge in Brussels. Phone Barbara Alkemade to Register 527-0365 Large crowd for Lodge opening More than 150 people toured the new home of St. John’s Masonic Lodge in Brussels on Sunday afternoon. The ribbon cutting took place on the steps of the new Lodge on Mill street east under brilliant sunshine at 1:30p.m. Wayne Todd, Wor­ shipful Master was master of ceremonies paying tribute to mem­ bers who had made a special contribution to the new lodge arouna Brussels Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Bob Bridge who were married Sept. 19. The happy couple are residing on William St. E. A reception will be held Oct. 4 in the Legion. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Stretton, Margaret, Grant and Leslie enter­ tained Mr. and Mrs. Grant Wil­ liams, Mr. and Mrs. Les Williams and daughter Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Bradshaw and Mr. and Mrs. Herb Stretton on Sunday for Grant Stretton’s birthday. Happy birthday Grant. Congratulations to Edgar and Angie Williams and Les and Brenda Williams on the recent births of their daughters. Mrs. Jane DeVries returned home on Thursday, Sept. 25 after a visit in Holland. The day after she arrived in Holland her brother-in- law passed away, she then stayed forsixweeks. The community’s Brussels hosts Federation annual meeting Brussels will host the annual meeting of the Huron County Federation of Agriculture, Oct. 9. Guest speaker for the meeting at the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre will be Sam McGregor who will tell about the Bruce Energy Centre and its impact on farmers. A social hour will be held from 6 -7 with dinner at 7 p.m. Tickets are $8 including building chairman Ger­ ald Gibson, Fred Thuell, Bruce McCall, Norman Hoover and Jim Mair. Mr. McCall had picked up the cost of architects fees on the project and donated carpeting. Mr. Thuell, he said made the whole project possible. Mr. Thuell, Mr. Gibson said, had had a dream to see the Masonic Lodge carried on in a proper sympathy is extended to her and her family. Mr. and Mrs. Ned Rutledge were pleasantly surprised Satur­ day evening when about 25 members of their families met to celebrate their 45th wedding anni­ versary. A gift was presented to them on behalf of all present and a delicious lunch including a decor­ ated cake was served by their sons Brian and his wife Marlene, Terry and his wife Brenda. Mr. Thuell commented that somebody had to take the bull by the horns and get a new location for the lodge and he had j ust decided to do it. Also present was Frank Klein­ knecht representing Bell Canada which leases part of its building for the lodge. He said that often his companyisaccusedofbeing too big so it was nice to be able to be involved in the community. The ribbon cutting was conduct­ ed by Mr. Gibson, Mr. Thuell, Mr. Hoover and Mr. Kleinknecht. Mr. Todd said about 1500 hours of work had gone into construction of the new lodge room. Those in attendance had a chance to see the fru it of that labour in an open house at the lodge throughout the afternoon. They saw some of the old furniture from the old lodge combined with a new building. Mr. Todd said Monday, the attendance had been higher than expected.
