Pat Brigham has been working as librarian at the Blyth branch of the Huron County Public Library now for several weeks. She enjoys the change from her former job in a bank. library supervisor likes her job, wants to learn Blyth’s new librarian, Pat Brig ham, finds life at the Blyth Public Library a far cry from the high tension of her former position as head teller at the Bank of Com merce in Goderich, but she loves it that way. “It is so nice and peaceful here, and I am really enjoying the people who come in,’ she says. “My life was just getting too complicated and stressful in the bank.’’ For the first time Mrs. Brigham has really enjoyed a summer at home on the family hobby farm at RR 3, Blyth, with husband Jim and children Jennifer, six, Mary Beth, four, and Kendra, three. She has had time this year to put in a big garden, to can or freeze all the produce it has presented them with, and to enjoy the family’s pigs, chickens, turkeys and calves with the children. She is not new to the library,. although she has only beeri'iiT her present position since last June: she worked at the Blyth library part-time over the years she was in high school, and has always loved books. She is pleased that the Huron County Library is sending her to a formal librarian’s short course in Barrie in early October, and is looking forward to it very much. Mrs. Brigham was born and brought up in the Blyth area, living in the village after her marriage, until the family moved to the farm jjiree years ago. Not quite willing to give up all the pressures of banking, however, she has worked in the bank at the Clinton Raceway every Sunday since last June, and hopes to keep on with that position next season. To continue our interviews with new teachers at Grey P.S., this week we are introducing Mrs. M. Starkey and Miss K. Gottfried. Miss Gottfried is beginning her second school year as a kindergar ten teacher. She previously taught part-time kindergarten at Turn berry Public School. Her first impression of our school was the co-operation and friendliness of the staff and pupils. Miss Gottfried believes that there is no real way to compare schools because “each school is unique in Grey Central Echo itself because of the children that are there.” At the present time Miss Gottfried is commuting from Waterloo but is looking for a residence in thearea during the winter months. Mrs. Starkey teachers Gr. 3 in the mornings here at Grey Public School. She started out teaching at a school between Durham and Han over. Her second year of teaching, she taught a kindergarten class just north of Toronto. Mrs. Starkey also taught Gr. 1 and 2 at the same school. After that she taught a kindergarten class in Woodstock. Just previously she taught the Gr. 3 half time, in Hensall. The behaviour of the pupils here at Grey was the first major difference she noticed. She also noted “that the children applied themselves quite nicely.” Eventually she hopes to become a full time teacher as she formerly was. Both pupils and staff give a great big welcome to our new staff members.***** As the fair is on Wednesday and we write “The Echo” on Monday, we unfortunately cannot comment on the fair’s events. But don’t despair, we will have the results to you as soon as possible!
