Donna Johnston wins 4-H awards at Seaforth Huron County’s top showman is a pert young lady from RR 2, Bluevale whose winning ways have long made her a formidable opponent where ever 4-H competi tions are held. At the Seaforth Fall Fair last weekend, the Achievement Day for Huron County 4-H Clubs, Donna won the very difficult All-Round Sweeptstakes Competi tion Showman trophy by first taking top place in the Sheep Showman class with her lamb, Sweet Pea, and then going on to capture the highest marks in the sweepstakes competition by show ing, in turn, a horse, a beef calf, a dairy calf and a market hog. In addition, she placed first at Seaforth with Sweet Pea as top market lamb, top senior showman, and top overall showman. Donna also showed her beef calf, Howie, at Seaforth, but did not place in the county competition. She didn’t really mind, though, since she had previously taken the top senior beef showman trophy at the Brussels Fall Fair, pushing out her second cousin, Scott Johnston, also of RR 2, Bluevale, who had to settle for reserve champion senior showman. Donna’s previous list of 4-H achievements staggers the imagi nation, as she has been winning prizes since she first entered the program at the age of 12. Now 17 (today, actually), she has complet ed more than 30 4-H projects, is presently a member of the Brussels Dairy Club, the Brussels Beef Club, the Huron Sheep Club, Senior Dairy Management, Quest for Success, Etiquette for the 80’s, Seed to Shelf Garden Club, and the new Milk Makes It project. in the past, she has completed projects with the Brussels Horse Club and the Huron Dairy Club, and has also taken dozens of ribbons at local school fairs, open shows, and has even won first place inaHuronCounty Science Fair, with a project on calf enteritis which earned her a berth at the national science fair in Saskatoon in 1983. Besides all this, Donna main tains a straight A average at F. E. Madill Secondary School in Wing ham, and takes her work so seriously that she will voluntarily miss the chance earned with her success at the Brussels and Seaforth fairs to go on to the Hays Classic Show and Sale at Markham this November, since it is held during her mid-term exams.
