Mabel's Continued from page 4 rights of some people to smoke where they want, even if it pollutes the air, versus the people who want the right to breath clean air despite the fact it stops other people from doing vhat they want, he figures the lawyers may make so much money vhey can afford to buy a tobacco company. Billie the smoker and Julia, the non-smoker kept getting hotter and hotter on the topic until Mabel finally had to step in. She said it was sounding a bit too much like the parliamentary debates she sees on television to make her comfortable. TUESDAY: Tim was saying he’s just picked up a real steal in a summer cottage along Lake Hur on. Julia asked him if it was a lakefront place. No, he said, it was in the second row of cottages but the way the water levels are on the lake he figures it may well be by next summer. FRIDAY: Biilie Bean, who’s al ways coming up with schemes to get the local economy going figures he’s got a sure-fire one this time. He says the town should get some experts in and set up a consulting company specializing in preparing studies on the CBC. It should be an industry that would be kept busy for years, he figures. Hank Stokes figured this time Billie just might be onto some thing. They’d have to build whole printing plants to keep up with the printing of all those reports, he says. Then they’d be using so much paper they might even have to build a paper mill locally. Ward Black figured it might be the answer to the town’s problem of trying to keep the railway open. Shipping out all those reports year after year would guarantee the railway a profit on the local line he says.
