Minor Hockey gets organized
BY LOIS McARTER
Yes, it looks like summer is over
and with the annual meeting of
Brussels and District Minor Sports
being held on September 9, one
gets the feeling it’s an awfully long
winter ahead and a very short
summer.

Town Contact, Lois McArter. Six
directors were also appointed: Lyle
Martin, Hannah Nicholson, Ron
Clarkson, Sandra Machan, Gwen
Raymond and Gary Earl. A fund
raising committee is also to be
formed.
The new executive has called a
meeting for Thursday evening
Sept. 18 at 8 p.m. to try and
complete the executive and coach
ing staff for the new season. If you
are interested in helping out, plan
to attend the meeting or notify any
of the executive of your intentions.
It is compulsory to have a
registered trainer for each team
registered in hockey this season
and is something I’m sure many
mothers could assist in, by attend
ing a clinic.
If you received a letter request
ing a reply on your participating in
tendering on the arena booth and
didn’t answer, the executive would
still like to know your feelings. Less

reply and they would like a larger

meeting and surprisingly the
women out-numbered the men
which makes you wonder what
direction minor hockey is headed.
President Dale Machan chaired
the meeting for the secretary and
treasurer’s reports and the corres
pondence received up to date.
There are three refresher clinics
for referees in the month of
September as well as the
W.O.A.A. annual meeting which
is being held in Clifford on
Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 7:30 p.m.
in the Community Centre.
Ron Clarkson took the chair and

Parents' help needed

from our local business community
and service clubs, we need your
help as individual parents. The old
maxim “many hands make light
work’’ holds true in an organiza
tion like ours. We have no desire to
harass the same willing people
over and over. Let’s all share the
load.
Throughout the year you will be
asked to donate a little of your time
and energy to one of our fund-rais
ing events. When more parents are
willing to help, there will be less
help needed individually.
We also realize that some
parents have already committed
their extra time elsewhere this
year. If this is your situation we ask
that your contribution be financial.

the regular registration fee will

list of volunteer help.
No matter how you decide to
contribute, we thank you for your
co-operation in helping to provide
and maintain a minor hockey and
ringette program for all kinds who
want to play.

A date for registration and
equipment exchange will also be
set at this meeting. The ice will be
in the arena early in October so we
haven’t any time to waste. Plan to
attend Thursday night’s meeting
and help to get the season off to a
good start.
In other hockey news the
Brussels Bulls Junior “D” hockey
club opened their hockey camp in
Listowel on Monday and Tuesday
nights and will continue in Wing
ham and Friday night at 9 p.m. and
Saturday night at 7 p.m. for
two-hour practice sessions. Any-
