Russ Wilson has seen many shows Continued from page A-10 shows but at times worked at them. He recalls going with Hugh Chisholm, one of the founders of the Blyth show, to judge at the Georgian Bay show at Collingwood. All took part in judging the machinery but when it came to horses they left it to Russ to do the judging, he recalls with a chuckle. Although he was once on the executive of the Blyth show himself, he finally told the association that it was time to let some younger people get involved. He thinks there is a pretty good bunch of younger people involved in the leader ship of the organization today. Recalling back to his own days with threshing gangs he recalls that he always liked a Bell engine (made in Seaforth) and a Waterloo threshing machine best. In those days he ran the separator and received the princely sum of $1 a day. He recalls other old-time threshing gangs in the area such as the outfit run by Dan, Simon and John Hallahan. He’s a fount of history of all kind, remembering back three gen erations before himself in his own family. He’s been a popular source of folklore in Blyth for many years, helping out, for instance, writers and directors at the Blyth Festival in researching times past. He was made an honourary board member of the Festival. P.O. Box 160 Queen Street Blyth Miniature steam engines and threshing machines have become as m uch a part of the show over the years as the real thing. And for model buffs, the chance to exchange information is always a good reason to come to the show.
