Right to farm report released The Right to Farm Advisory Committee report released by Ontario Agriculture Minister Jack Riddell calls for new legislation to protect farmers carrying on normal farming practices from nuisance actions by neighboring property owners. “The new legislation, as re commended by the committee would address a number of key issues,' ’ said committee chairman Donald Dunn. “It would protect farmers from nuisance actions under common law provided they were using normal farming practices. It would require permit criteria for future farm-related severances, and for the construction of new livestock facilities and residences in agricul tural areas. Minimum separation distances would be used as one of the criteria for a permit.’’ Members of the minister’s advisory committee were Otto Crone, Hagersville; Barnie Evans, Embro; Ralph Ferguson, Watford; Dorothy Middleton, Chrysler; Earl Muir, Niagara-on-the-Lake; and chairman Donald Dunn, director of the ministry’s foodland preserva tion branch.
