McKillop township tidies up drainage business Eleven vie for Brussels Fair Queen title Eleven lovely ladies from the Brussels area will compete for the title of Queen of the Fair at a dance to kick off the 125th Brussels Fall Fair, coming up September 16-17. The Queen, a runner-up, and Miss Congeniality will be chosen at the first intermission of the dance at the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre this Saturday, and will then reign over events of the following week. Drains were the main topic of discussion at the September meet­ ing of McKillop township council. Engineer William Dietrich was on hand to present two drain reports for the Canada Company Municipal Drain and the Dalton Municipal Drain. Three landholders, Thomas Dorsey, Fergus Kelly and Martin VanBakel were present to discuss the report on the Canada Company drain. Mr. VanBakel indicated that the Kenny Award should be deepened to provide outlet for his property in Logan township and questioned the depth of the “A” branch drain. Council recommend­ ed that he present a petition to Logan township council for re­ placement of this award drain and sufficient outlet would be provided in the engineer’s report. Council set the court of revision for Oct. 7 at 7:30 p.m. In other drain business, council moved to accept the request for replacement of the Rose Branch of the Hoegy Municipal Drain. Coun­ cillor Brian Campbell was appoint­ ed as a member of the court of revision for the Carter Municipal Drain in Tuckersmith Township. John George was appointed a member of the court of revision for the McArthur Municipal Drain in Morris township. At 8:30 a public meeting was held to consider an application by the Trustees of the Maitland Bank Cemetery for approval of the proposed enlargement of the Cemetery. John Talbot, Dr. J. Turnbull, Wayne Hugill and Don McKercher attended. After dis­ cussion, the council approved th< enlargement plan. Council approved the severance of 100 acres for agricultural and milling purposes of Lot 19, Conces­ sion 7, owned by Ken R. Campbell Farms Ltd. Reeve Marie Hickneil was given permission toattend the Municipal Officials and Fire Chiefs seminar being held Sept. 23 and 24, at the Clinton Municipal office. Reeve Hickneil reported to council on the sessions of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario which she has attended. General accounts of $18,874.27 and road accounts of $52,271.03 were approved for payment. The road superintendent was authorized to advertise for tenders for snowplowing.
