Five generations were represented at the 90th birthday celebration of Mary McQuarrie recently in Brussels. JjLeople around Brussels Mr. and Mrs. Sam Sweeney have returned home from Calgary where they attended the wedding for Ruth Anne Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ross Smith. M rs. Ann Smith is a patient in London Hospital and Mrs. Ruth Hupfer is a patient in Wingham Hospital. Hope they are soon feeling better. One of these quilts will be selected as an entry in the Canada Packers Quilt Competition. ********** Pies Needed Donations of pies on September 17 for the Brussels Fair Board booth will be greatly appreciated. ********** 500 balloons will be released at the Community Centre at 1.00 p.m. Wednesday, September 17 when the Fair is officially Melville Presbyterian Church, Brussels. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Higgins attended the wedding of Rosemary Imeson on Sept. 6 in Leamington, sheisthedaughterofMr. and Mrs. Roland Imeson and granddaughter of Mrs. Pearl Imeson of Wheatley. The Imeson family are former Brussels residents. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Stretton and familyspentthe weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Les Williams. They all attended Mr. and Mrs. Grant Williams 35th wedding anniver­ sary where Grant and Jean had their wedding vows repeated. Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Williams and family also attended. Mr. and Mrs. Alvie Higgins visited with Mr. and Mrs. Don Edgar, Mr. and Mrs. Brian David, Ashley and Ryan of Allanford over the weekend. September is Arthritis month. However, the3.5 million Cana­ dians suffering with this disease are bothered most of the year. Local volunteers will be canvassing Brussels during the next two weeks. Please welcome them when they call at your home. An open house and family celebration w-as held on Sunday, August31 at the home of Mary McQuarrie on the occasion of her 90th birthday. Attending were her six children Mae, Dick, Eileen, Ann, Peter and Marlene and their families. There were 10 grandchildren and spous­ es; thirteen great grandchildren and one new great-great-grand- son. Beside the many gifts she received, congratulation messag­ es from Prime Minister Brian Mulroney; Governor General Sauve; Premier, David Peterson; M.P. Murray Cardiff and M.P.P., Local music students successful Cindy Bernard and Sherry Hoe- gy tied for first place at the Royal Conservatory of Music examina­ tions held in Blyth in Preliminary Rudiments with First Class Hon­ ours with98percenteach. They will receive Grade Five Royal Conservatory Pianoforte Certifi­ cates now. Elizabeth den Dekker won se­ cond place with First Class Hon­ ours of 83 per cent and will receive her Grade Six Royal Conservatory Pianoforte Certificate.
