An international show and sale
of shorthorn cattle was held at
Palermo, Argentina in conjunction
with the Congress and the centen
nial Palermo livestock exposition.
Although pedigreed shorthorn
numbersaroundthe world have
declined in recent years, an
optimistic breeze was evident at
the fifth World Congress. It is clear
that shorthorn breeders have
modernized their cattle to fit
today’s more efficient cattle indu

THURSDAY: Julia was mention
ing this morning that she heard the
divorce rate had tripled since the
new divorce law came in on June 1.
It’ssobadthatthe bureaucracy
can’t keep up with the number of
divorce applications but as one of
the government people said, they
figure this rush is only temporary.
“Humph,” says Ward Black,
‘‘seems to me that’s what people
think of their marriages too.”
FRIDAY: At this afternoon’s ses-
five days with about 40 other
delegates, visiting shorthorn ran

of the Aregentinian pampas, as
well as touring other attractions of
the country.
Pendril Ganningham of Argen
tina was elected president of the
World Shorthorn Council for a
three year term succeeding A. R. D.
Haise of South Africa, the charter
president whohad served since the
first World Congress in 1974. Ross
Procter from Canada was elected
vice president and John Wood
Roberts of England was chosen as
Secretary for the next three years.

through the grapevine they were
cutting down 15 acres of marijuana
plants up near Wroxeter. Tim said
he hard that if the stuff had been
harvested and sold it would have
been worth $2 million on the street.
“Damn,” says Hank Stokes.
‘‘And I was thinking it was the one
crop I could grow next year that
might make a little money.”
“There might be even more
money in it, ’ ’ says Tim, “if you can
develop a new dwarf variety that
doesn’t grow higher than corn.”
