New art exhibit opens at gallery Walls and Waysides, the third and final exhibition to be presented atthe Blyth Festival Gallery, opens on August 21. The exhibition is an innovative exciting display of three artists’ interpretations of modern land and seascapes, each very different and distinctive. The artists - Robert Skipper, Alex Neuman, and Tony Urquart - are all currently residents of Southwestern Ontario. The public is warmly invited to attend the opening at 7:00p.m. to view the paintings and to meet the artists. This exhibition, arranged with the assistance of the Ontario Arts Council and sponsored by Mutual Life, will run through to September 13. The Gallery hours are from 9 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. and during intermissions on performance days, and 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. on non-performance days; the Gallery is closed on Sundays. Blyth Inn EAT IN OR TAKE OUT 523-9381 Festival car rally Aug. 30 The Blyth Festival’s first car rally was such a success that a second one will be held this summer on Saturday, August 30. The circuitous route will be through the beautiful Huron Coun­ ty countryside, with devlishly difficult questions to be answered along the way. Many exciting prizeswillbeawarded, with the 4-H course studies milk Chocolate milk comes from brown cows! Sherbet has fewer calories than ice cream, and dairy substitutes are better than dairy products! These are a few of the many myths surrounding dairy products that are featured in the new 4-H project “Milk Makes It”. During a seven week course, members will venture into dairy­ land and discover many interesting facts about the variety of dairy products. They will learn how dairy products are made, the importance of dairy products in the diet, and how to shop for, store and cook with them. All members will be interested in “Milk Makes It”. Register now. 4-H rural youth connection Sept. 6 4-H Members from Elgin, Es­ sex, Huron, Kent, Lambton, Middlesex. Oxford and Perth will be meeting together on September 6, at Western Fairgrounds for “Rural Youth Connection”. Thisevent, sponsoredby Pio­ neer Hi-Bred Ltd., will see approx­ imately 200 4-H members taking part in a Judging Competition and a Communications Workshop. Members will develop self-con- idence, while having fun meeting new friends and practising their judging and public speaking skills. Thedaybeginsat9:00a.m., with registration andconcludes at 4:30 p.m. with award presentations. The noon banquet features a guest speakeronliving and communicat­ ing with the Inuit. The Judging Competition and Communications Workshop will be held from 9:15 a.m. to 12:00 o’clock. The after­ noon program consists of group presentations by 4-H members and time at Western Fair. 4-H Members in Southwestern Ontario are looking forward to this unique regional day, and wish to thank Pioneer Hi-Bred Ltd. for sponsoring the Rural Youth Con­ nection. first prize again being one night’s accommodation for two at the luxurious four star Ranton Place Motor Hotel in Palmerston - their fitness centre includes an indoor pool, sauna, whirlpool, squash courts, etc. Everyone is invited to join in the fun. Get into the spirit by inventing a humourous name for your team, orcomein costume! It is recom­ mended that each team consist of at least two people: one to drive, the other to read the instructions and navigate. This is an ideal event for the entire family - children can get in on the act by watching out for clues and landmarks. Teams can register at, and depart from the Blyth Memorial Hall on the day of the rally, at any time between 9 a.m. and 12 noon. The basic registration is $5.00 per car (regardless of the number of people in the team), and those who sign up additional sponsors (at $5.00 per sponsor) will receive a bonus, for each additional sponsor, one extra clue will be given! If you wish to gain extra points, these sponsorship sheets can be picked up from the Blyth Festival Box Office prior to the rally. Lunch may be purchased following the rally, on your return to the Memorial Hall in Blyth. All proceeds from the rally go to the Blyth Festival capital projects. Please note, this is not a race. The object of the rally is to correctly answer the cryptic questions and identify check-points along the route, while enjoying the challenge and taking in the scenery.
