Vera Fraine top winner at flower show The Brussels Horticultural So­ ciety’s Summer Flower Show was held on Wednesday, August 13th, at St. John’s Anglican Church. Among the exhibits was a dining room arrangement of pink day lilies and large purple asters; the green and white class featured tiny white pincushion mums with ap­ propriate greenery. Single roses and gladioli were as usual quite Jjpeople around Brussels Marilyn Higgins 887-6754 ✓ Jeanne Blake has returned from a three week motor trip with her brother Mr. and Mrs. Harold Kirkconnell of Goderich where they visited with their father Andrew Kirkconnell and their sister Mary Park in Winnipeg. Mr. Kirkconnell receives the Citizen every week and really enjoys it. He would like to say hello to everyone, and we in return send our greetings to you and are glad you enjoy the Citizen so much. Karen Knight has just returned from her trip to Switzerland and we will have a complete report in next week’s paper. Welcome home Karen. Congratulations to Vi and Harry Bowler of London on their 50th Anniversary. Vi is the former Viola Fox. We are glad to report that Bob and Rene Richmond and Cora Alcock have all been released from hospital, and hope all are improv­ ing each day. On Saturday evening the Opti­ mists held a “Back to the Fifties’’ dance at the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre. There was a good and enthusiastic crowd on hand. Most people were dressed in fashionable 50’s garb. Proceeds from this dance will be used for community projects. Following the dance a group of family friends held a chivaree for Greg and Nancy Ducharme at their home on Turnberry Street in the wee small hours of Sunday morn­ ing. Summer seems short and even shorter when the Canadian geese begin to gather for the flight south. George Turnbull’s pond has lots of activity these days as does Howard Martin’s grain field. An enormous white dahlia was also shown as well as pink cleome, and the old-time favourite pansies and nasturiums. It was nice to see Bachelor Buttons featured in the tea party cup and saucer class. Two young ladies (who were exhibiting in the Junior section) were quite fascinated with the miniature arrangements. There at about 7:30 each morning. If you don’t see them, you will certainly hear them. Joyce and Roger Tipple, Jona­ thon and Sarah, Burlington, Ont. spent the weekend with her parents Mary and Murray Hueth- er. Jonathon and Sarah remained for a week’s holidays with their grandparents and cousin Sheri Huether. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kennedy of Ottawa are visiting this week with his mother, Mrs. R. W. Kennedy. Adrian Kennedy also spent a few days last week with his grand­ mother. Rene and Bob Richmond won the trip of the month, sponsored by the Lions Club. The McCutcheon ladies Esther, Betty, Lois, Barb, Marg Smith and Berva Rice spent a few days in downtown Toronto, last week. They were joined one day for a window shopping spree by Vonne Brister of Orillia. While in the city, the women enjoyed the production of ‘ ‘ Beyond the Fringe’’ at the Teller’s Cage dinner theatre also the musical comedy “Kismet’’ at the Royal Alexandra Hotel. The Gerald Exel family of Brussels hosted visitors from the Netherlands for three weeks. While their company was here an Exel family reunion at the home of Eric Exel, RR3, Lucknow was held. Sauves Order Now! celebrate for custom 45 years AUG. 19-30 BISHOP-ROBERTSON Mr. and Mrs. Bill Robertson of Bluevale are pleased to announce the forthcoming marriage of their daughter Jacquie to Kevin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Bishop. The wedding will take place on Saturday, September 6 at 4 p.m. in the Brussels Presbyterian Church. An open reception will follow in the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre. was also a variety of house plants. The President, Alice McArter, noted that the Junior section had 55 entries -- one class of which was wild weeds collected from fields and roadsides. The Junior pro­ gramme is co-ordinated by Jane White and Shirley Wheeler. What a wonderful way to teach children the joys of gardening. A delicious cold buffet of boneless dressed turkey, sliced ham, potato and other jellied salads was served by members from four to seven p.m. Home made pies including fresh peach and lemon meringue were also on the menu. The overall winner of the Vera Clayton and Ruth Sauve recently celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary. They were married in London, Ontario after which they went to liveinOttawa, Ruthworkingfor the Federal Government and Clayton serving in the Royal Canadian Airforce stationed at Uplands.
