Blyth Legion resumes old tradition with family picnic Over 50 people gathered at the Wawanosh Valley Conservation Area to enjoy the annual family picnic of Branch 420 Royal Cana­ dian Legion, Blyth on Sunday, August 10. President, Bili Vincent welcomed the members, families and friends of the branch to the revival of what had been an ongoing event until the early sixtiesandexpressed optimism that the picnic will once again become an annual outing. Lawn bowling tournament held The weather man co-operated with an excellent summer day as the Blyth Lawn Bowling Club held their annual tournament at the Clinton greens on Saturday, Au­ gust 9. All of the eight greens were filled for the double draw games. The ladies served a lunch at noon and a supper at night. The Vodden trophy was presen­ ted for the competition, and the winners, Mr. and Mrs. Rick Tompkin of Kitchener were pre­ sented with miniature trophies. Nine other prizes were given to the Smile Bloom where you are planted. Sports Officer Art Airdrie had a full program of fun and competi­ tion for young and old involving traditional events like sack races, wheelbarrow and three-legged races and competitions such as toss the egg and pass the banana. While no records were set, all participants came away with prizes donated by the branch and by the Conservation Authority. Following the sports program the young and the young at heart top bowlers. Young People HAPPY15TH GRUMP enjoyed a period of swimming while the Ladies Auxiliary organiz- ed the pot luck supper during whichcoffee, milkandpop were served, donated by the Auxiliary. A candy and balloon scramble concluded the day’s activities with all participants looking forward to next year’s picnic. Recent visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Rinn were Mr. and Mrs. Bill Pappel of Egmondville; Mrs. Dave Foster and two girls from Kirkton; Mr. and Mrs. Elvey Rock from Monkton; Mr. and Mrs. Armand Kernick of Lucan and Mrs. Keith Rock of Seaforth. 54 people attend Wallace picnic at Blyth Lions Park On Sunday, July 20, the Wallace family picnic was held at the Blyth Lions Park. There were 54 in attendance. After dinner a short business meeting was conducted by Larry Rutledge. Games were then enjoy­ ed under the direction of Rick, Heather, Larry and Jan Rutledge of Clinton. Pamela and Kent Vodden of Toronto visited their grandmother Mrs. Myrtle Vodden last week. Janis and Brock Vodden attend­ ed the Blyth Bowling Tournament in Clinton last Saturday, and visited afterwards in Blyth and Auburn. The family of Con and Lois van Vliet entertained 45 relatives and friends on the occasion of their parents’ 25th wedding annivers­ ary. Home for the happy occasion were Kim van Vliet of Toronto and Kent van Vliet of Trenton and Todd, Blyth. Guests from a distance were Bert and Anne Cunningham of Toronto, Doris Pitblado also of Toronto, Ford and Eunice Cunningham of Sarnia and Gerrit and Gerda van Vliet and family of The Netherlands.
