Sheila Richards has returned home from Montreal after a visit of Christopher. Mary and Murray also visited with the Ritchie and Heart, stroke grants awarded The Heart and Stroke Founda­ tion of Ontario recently announced recipients of grantsfor the 1987 McDonald relatives near Rose­ town, Sask., Mrs. Karen McDon­ ald and children at Oldes Alta., at the Calgary Stampede and Mr. Neil McDonald at Vancouver. Also included was a trip to Murray Bay, sixty miles east of Quebec City, where they stayed with their aunt, Miss Eileen Kerr, whose cottage overlooks the St. Lawrence. Al­ though the summer cruise boats no longer operate between Quebec City, Murray Bay and Tadoussac, and the whales hadn’t as yet come up the river, the magnificent scenery was as breath taking as ever. Sheila noted that she was able to keep up with the local news as both her sister and aunt subscribe to The Citizen. Mrs. Mary Huether spent this past week in Scarborough with Gary and Joan Ritchie and baby fiscal year. A total of $9,667,612 has been allocated. The breakdown is as follows: publications - $66,000; fellowships - $114,934; research associateships - $885,125; scholar­ ships - $1,839,671; annual grants - $3,961,617. The Foundation is pleased with the quality of research being undertaken in the Province to further the fight against the debilitating effects of heart disease and stroke. Every medical school and major hospital in Ontario receives support for research and 237 research teams throughout the province are funded by the Found­ ation. Many of the projects concentrate on ‘hardening of the arteries’ (atherosclerosis) and high blood pressure.
