Local 4-Hers attend conference
Good demand
at Brussels
Stockyards
The market at Brussels Stock-
yards followed the week’s decline
on a good demand on all classes of
cattle. Pigs continued to trade at
firm prices. There were 619 cattle
and 982 pigs on offer.
Choice steers sold from $79 to
$83 per hundredweight with sales
to $85.75. Good steers were $75 to
$79.
A steer consigned by Ken Dalton
of RR 1, Walton weighing 1290 lbs.
sold for $85.75 with his offering of
24 steers averaging 1217 lbs.
selling for an overall price of $83.21
and his son, Darrel’s steer weigh
ing 1090lbs. soldfor $82.25 and his
daughter, Elesha’s steer weighing
1120 lbs. sold for $84.

for an overall price of $81.80 with
sales to $84. Seven mixed heifers
consigned by Tim Prior of RR 3,
Brussels averaging 1036 lbs. sold
for an overall price of $81.08 with a
sale at $83. Twenty heifers con
signed by Bob Wheeler of RR 5,
Brussels averaging 979 lbs. sold
for an overall price of $79.70 with
sales to $82.50.
Twenty-four heifers, mainly
herefords, consigned from Dan
Pearson Feedlot of RR 1, Ethel
averaging 952 lbs. sold for an
overall price of $78.45 with two
fancy heifers averaging 900 lbs.
selling for $83.60.
Choice cows sold from $54 to $58
with sales to $61. Good cows were
$50 to $54. Canners and cutters
were $46 to $50. Heavy bulls traded
to a high of $70.75. Light bulls to a
high of $72.50. A bull consigned by
Harry Mann of RR 1, Listowel
weighing 1960 lbs. sold for $70.75.
Pigs under 30 lbs. traded to a
highof$1.56perlb.; 30 to 40-lb.
pigs traded to a high of $1.46; 40 to
50-lb. pigs to a high of $1.29; 50 to
60-lb. pigs to a high of $1.18; 60 to
70-lb. pigs to a high of $1.09; 70 to
80-lb. pigs to a high of $1.03 per lb.
Brussels Stockyards will be
holding a special stocker and
feeder sale on Tuesday, August 12
at 1:30 p.m.

“Working towards tomorrow’’
is the theme of the 1986 4-H
Regional Conference for 15 year
olds.
Ten Conferences are held across
the Province each year involving
900 4-H members. Delegates from
Huron, Bruce and Grey Counties
will attend the Conference at
Centralia College, July 23 to 25.
Those attending will be involved in
a wide variety of activities and
discussions. Career options are to
be emphasized at this year’s
Conference.
The following 4-H members
from Huron County will be atten

to Expo '86 in Vancouver
Like many others, several of the
Huron County Junior Farmer
members felt the urge to visit Expo
‘86 this year.
There were 35 members in total
who participated in this trip:

several of the Counties’ five clubs.
These people enjoyed a relaxing
plane ride to Calgary where they
boarded a motorcoach for a tour of
Calgary and a beautiful ride to
Banff, Alberta. During the follow
ing days this group visited Sulphur
Mountain, Banff Hot Springs,
Lake Louise, The Canadian Rock
ies, several National Parks, Hell’s
Gate, Whitewater rafting and
stayed at a ski resort/recreation
centre at Vernon, a motel in Hope
and finally to the University of
British Columbia where they spent
the remainder of their nights.
