Blyth rec. program leader unhappy with pay Blyth’s summer recreation pro gram may be a hit with parents and with children but the pay rate is less than a hit with the program’s leader, Blyth village council learn ed at its July meeting July 8. Council received a letterfrom Catherine Battye, leader of the program, saying that more than 130 children had been enrolled in the program with fees of close to $1,000 to be used toward material costs of the summer program. However, Ms. Battye expressed disappointment in the fact she was only receiving $4 per hour for her work, the same rate of pay as her assistants. She had put in three weeks of work getting plans ready for the program she said which she was not getting paid for. Councillors agreed that they had promised to look into giving Ms. Battye a bonus at the end of the summer because they understood under the government grant pro gram, all employees must be paid the same and council cannot supplement wages. They agreed, however, they had not communi cated their plans to Ms. Battye. Council voted to inform Ms. Battye that they were looking into the situation to see what can be done. “Sure, she’s doing more so she should get more,” Councillor Tom Cronin said. /a\ uburn cL lr 1 Mrs. Mildred Lawlor There were six groups up to age 12 who were able to attend the annual Vacation Bible School held at Blyth Public School.
