THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, JULY 16, 1986. PAGE 11. Driveway pavers on paved streets out of luck Blyth village council will not help pay the cost of paving boulevard sections of driveway son streets that have already been paved, council agreed at its meeting July 8. The council had been approach ed by Dinsley Street east resident Dan Mclnnes to see if council’s recently-accepted policy of paying half the costs from the edge of the roadway to the end of already-pav ed driveways applied to streets recently paved as well as those about to be paved. Dinsley Street east was repaved last year al though it has been paved for many years. Reeve Albert Wasson said that if council was paving the street now, it would have to consider Mr. Mclnnes’ situation but not on a street that has already been paved. Councillor Bill Howson pointed out that Dinsley Street has been paved for many years. When Mr. Mclnnes paved his driveway, the street had already been paved, he said. Under the circumstances, coun cil agreed it could not help Mr. Mclnnes. In other business, council a- greed to give Lome Popp permis sion to tear up sidewalk on Dinsley Street east (in order to make it level with sidewalk east and west of his Letter to the editor lot and to cut down the height of his driveway) as long as the sidewalk is replaced to municipal standards at Mr. Popp’s expense. Councillor William Manning wondered about the village’s liability for anyone hurt during such a private undertaking on publicproperty. Reeve Wasson said he felt the only worry council had was that the job was done properly. In other sidewalk business, council will inform Keith Mont gomery that it is not interested in replacing sidewalks in front of Mr. Montgomery’s bus garage at this time. Mr. Montgomery had told coun cil he would like to see the Queen Street south sidewalk replaced but Reeve Albert Wasson said that as long as safety is not concerned, council should hold up on all Queen Street sidewalk plans until it gets more information on the plans of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications. Town foreman Merv Ritchie told council that he’s been told by MTC officials that it would be foolish to make any sidewalk repairs on Queen Street at this time because when MTC does repave the street (highway 4), it will tear up the street from sidewalk to sidewalk. © C O"O P \HENSALL DISTRICT 7^ CO-OPERATIVE Invites You To Attend An OPEN HOUSE at our Writer says report inaccurate THE EDITOR: I feel that your report of the Morris Township Court of Revision for Grasby Municipal Drain Branch B was inaccurate and one-sided. Most of the water going through the B-branch drain comes from the Meier farms and pond and from the Walsh farm. That drain had blown out on my land and the water was running on the surface. In 1984 when I asked Mr. Meier for help in fixingthedrain, his answer was that he didn’t care about the drain because my land was all downhill from his and the water was going to run away anyway. That year I put in over 200feet of eight-inch tileat my own expense to fix the drain. The B-branch drain has so much slope on my property that with the original blowout being repaired and willow roots causing blockage at another spot, a second blowout occurred the following spring. Mr. Meier was again told about the situation, and still no help was offered; again at my own expense, I put in 160 feet of eight-inch tile to repair the drain. To prevent further blowouts, I partially blocked the drain to slow down the flow of the water. When the engineer surveyed my land, he assessed me for land which cannot possible drain into the B-branch, since the water would have to go over a private open ditch and also over 7 private A-branch drain runs to even get to the B-branch; this was the basis for my complaint about the assessed drainage area. Blyth insurance in effect Despite already having one claim in for a loss of nearly $80,000, Blyth village council has learned that it still has insurance coverage in case of loss by malfeasance by village employees.
