I wraltonI \ /\ / Mrs. Betty McCall x887-6677 People around Walton Isabelle Shortreed enjoyed a few days last week holidaying with Bill and Louise Smith at their cottage at Amberly. Robbi Shortreed is holidaying this week at the Presbyterian Church camp near Kintail. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Billing, Cambridge visited on the weekend with their daughter Carol Gamble, Dave and girls and took in the air show at the park on Saturday afternoon. Visiting with Norma Steele recently was Linda Leeming of Stratford. Norma Leeming enjoyed a tour of the McIntosh Gallery at the University of Western Ontario, London and other places of inter­ est. Sports club holds air show The Walton Area Sports club sponsored a splendid air show on Saturday at the Walton Ball Park. Several radio-controlled air craft were on display and were put into the air. The announcer gave out the different kinds of plans run by different owners. He said it is a happy sport that started back in the early thirties. These men belong to a group that can put on shows like this. The group hopes to make this an annual event. Winners of draw The July meeting of the Walton Area Sports Club was held when plans were made for the Ladies slo-pitch tournament in Walton this weekend. Winners of the monthly draw were: Marie McGav- in, $100, (second time); Bob Mathers, $25 (from Trowbridge). Community shower held Wednesday A community shower was held for Nanci Bennett, bride elect of this month, in the basement of Duffs United Church, Wednesday evening, July 9. Sherry Hoegy presented a pre­ lude of piano music as friends, neighbours and relatives arrived. Maxine Houston was in charge of names written on a Cameo cloth. Karen Hoegy welcomed every­ one and announced the program. Piano solos were given by Shannon Craig and Andrea Gingerich. Margaret Craig gave a comical reading. Marie McGavin led in a lively sing-song accompanied by Marjor­ ie Humphries at the piano. The guests of honor were called to the front and gifts were brought outby Sharon Godkin, Shannon Craig, Andrea and Lisa Ging- erich. Nanci was assisted in opening her many lovely gifts by her mother Margaret Bennett, the groom’s mother, Mrs. Ducharme and Mrs. McArter. The address had been read by Nancy (Schade) Denham. Nanci made a fitting reply and invited everyone to their reception that Friday evening in Brussels. Achilles celebrate 50th anniversary Congratulations were extended to Roily and Teenie Achilles on Sunday when friends and relatives attended open house at Duff’s United Church to help them celebrate their 50th wedding anni­ versary. Later in the afternoon over 50 people attended a barbeque at their home. Guests were present from Bell­ wood, Clinton, Hearst, Kenora, Guelph, Stratford, Stoney Creek, Paris, Seaforth, Sebringville, Dun­ gannon, Lucknow and the Walton area. Richard re­ mained for a few weeks’ holidays. Mr. and Mrs. Clare Veitch spent a week with their son-in-law and daughter and family at Manotick. Mr. and Mrs. Angus Starr, Shelburne, visited Don Cotton on the weekend and Mrs. Cotton in University hospital, London. Kenneth Reay from Spalding, Sask., was a guest with Jack and Mrs. Conley for a few days. He was on his way back to Saskatchewan after purchasing a grain truck in Toronto. He went home by way of the Chee-chee-maun, Tobermory. Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Strickler enjoyed a picnic on Sunday at Wildwood along with John and Mrs. Strickler and family. Mr. and Mrs. Ron Burdett, Kitchener, were guests at the Baljet-van Donkersgoed wedding on Saturday, visiting after with Mrs. Gordon Engel, before leaving on Sunday for a holiday at Amberly. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Engel also visited his mother on their way home from Bayfield. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Conley were special guests at the Baljet-van Donkersgoed wedding on Satur­ day, July 5 in the Listowel Presbyterian Church, and the reception following at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. Mrs. Bert van Donkersgoed. Mr. and Mrs. David Kerley, Gorrie, visited Mrs. Mac Engel on Monday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Conley attended the Forester’s breakfast at Benmiller Park on July 6, also a lovely open air church service with the High Chaplain of the Canadian Forester’s, Rev. Stan McDonald as guest minister. We are pleased to report that Mrs. Don Cotton got home on July 12 from University hospital, Lon­ don.
