Brussels cubs help MVCA plant trees The first Brussels Cubs, which includes boys ages 8 - 11, from Brussels, MorrisandGrey have been busy as usual this year. On April 4, they traveled to Vanastra for their annual swimm- ing night, where they had fund practising their swimming skills, for the upcoming season. On Saturday, April 19 those cubs who were able to, along with Cub Leader Robin Dunbar and parent Dale Newman went out to the Maitland Valley Conservation area in Morris Township, where thanks to Jack Overholt and the Ministry of Natural Resources, they planted 200 seedling white pine trees (a points is the Green Six: Sixer, requirement for the Black Star). In Robbie Gowing; Seconder, Darren order to complete the Black Star Hemingway and Cubs Jack Zettel requirements, the boys are also and Ryan Newman, with the White working on posters about wildlife preservation. Earlier in the year, theboys went to work designing their own Kub Kars. Hurry up and get them finished boys, as you are scheduled to race the Wingham Cub pack on Tuesday, May 6. On Monday, April 21, the Cubs in keeping with the spirit of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, held a Floor Hockey Tournament. The winning team was the Gold Six, consisting of Sixer, Paul Kitchen; Seconder, Danny Hall and wolfcubs Yee Kuang Wong and Grant Jarvis. At this particular time during the Cub season, the leading six in Rebekahs to display equipment at TradeFest There was a good attendance at the regular meeting of Morning Star Rebekah Lodge. Noble Grand Barbara Watts conducted the meeting. A number of members will accompany D.D.P. Leona Connelly to Seaforth April 28. A good number accepted an invitation to attend Chicken dinner sponsored by Oddfellows April 29. Plans for Variety Fair in lodge hall on May 3 at 1:30 p.m. were completed. Several members offered to assist Oddfellows in booth at Trade Fair May 2, 3, and 4 where there will be a display of hospital equipment which is loan- ed to anyone in area to use at home when in need of it. An invitation was received to attend a Friendship meeting of Ruth Rebekah Lodge, Stratford, May 20 as well as one to attend a Blue Water Shriners Club dinner in Brussels on October 18. A lovely Rebekah floral wreath was on display. This was donated by a member to be used at funeral homeforadeceasedmember. A picture of same and plaque to be hung in Lodge hall in memory of the late P.D.D.P. Jessie Little. Winnifred Edgar is still in hospital. Several other members are recuperating at home. Birth- day greetings were sung to a member. A lovely hand made cushion and candle holders were donated by a member. Tickets are to be sold and a draw held in future. Closing lodge the members then prepared the hall for District meeting on Wednesday. This was followed by a social time with lunch served by committee in charge. Wednesday afternoon Past Noble Grands of Huron District No. 23 held their meeting in the Brussels Lodge Hall. This meeting was conducted by D.D.P. Leona Connelly. About 50 members were present. Reports were given from each Lodge, all reporting a very busy and successful year. D.D.P. Leona then gave a report of her very busy term. The incoming D.D.P. Lyla Smith of Exeter was introduced. Following the meeting each lodge entertained with a number for a program which was delightful and humorous. Brussels Noble Grand and her assistants served a delicious meal to all present. Six; Sixer Brett Clarkson, Secon- der, Jeffrey Kitchen and cubs Andy Overholt and Curtis Krauter making it a very close race. Points are accumulated by attendance, proper dresss in uniform, neatness and cleanliness, competitive games and activities and awarding of personal badges. Better get working on those badges boys! On Saturday, April 26, the Cubs will have learned something about Hospital routine and health after they have completed a tour of the Seaforth hospital, lead by Mrs. Harvey Kitchen. Coming up soon, a Parent Meeting will be held at the school at 7 p.m. , Monday May 5 during the regular Cub meeting. Parents are asked to please attend as there is need to plan for the annual District Cub Camp, which this year will be held at Saugeen Bluff's Conservation area, June 6 - 8, and to discuss the cub programme. Coming up also, date to be announced, the Cubs will be having a guest night where the Cubs can invite boys who may be interested in joining cubs next year. Mr. Dunbar would like to thank all the parents for taking turns assisting at the Cub meetings, for driving on field trips and helping in any way. He would also like to express his appreciation to the Brussels Lions for being sponsors.
