Brussels Peewees perform well in tournament Museum staff gets raise Continued from page 13 They were to be back in Brussels on Tuesday eveningfor the second game. The Peewee’s also participated in the annual Goderich Young Canada Week Tournament on Sunday morning after being can­ celled on Friday night. They played Mildmay inthefirstgame. Brad Taylor and Jason Cooper combined to put Brussels on the scoreboard in the first period. The second period was scoreless. Brad Taylor and Jason Cooper were again successful in defeating the goalie for their second goal of the game before Mildmay got their one and only goal of the game. Brussels moved on with their 2 - 1 victory. They then met Lucknow who had defeated Hensail 10-2 earlier in the day. Brussels was successful in keeping Lucknow off the score­ board until the last three minutes of the first period when they scored two quick goals. Lucknow went on to add seven more goals and claim a 9 - 0 win over the Brussels squad. One Lucknow player was successful in scoring eight of the nine goals for his team. This eliminated Brussels from the tournament. The Peewee “B’s* were involv- ed in a tournament of “B” teams in Ripley on Saturday. Their first game was against Tiverton whom they defeated 3-1. Brussels goal scorers were Roger Evans assisted by Brian Alexander; Jason Cooper unassisted; and Steve McCut­ cheon from Jason Cooper and Kevin Alcock. Their second game was against Lucknow whom they defeated 3-2. Brian Alexander led the Brussels squad with two goals with Brad Taylor assisted by Brent Evans getting the third goal. Brussels played in the cham­ pionship game at 8:30 on Saturday night. After a long day in the rink, they came close but were defeated by a team from Wallace by a 4 - 3 score. Goals were scored by Brad Taylor unassisted; Jason Cooper from Steve McCutcheon; and Rob Veitch from Brad Taylor. Congra- ulations boys for three good lockey games. The same team played in lelgrave on Sunday night for their econd game of the playoffs. They /ere successful in scoring a 10 - 1 ictory over the home team. Two goals each were scored by Brian Alexander, Brad Taylor, Steve McCutcheon and Jason Cooper. Singles went to Ron Stevenson and Brent Evans. As­ sists went to Jason Cooper and Brad Taylor. NOVICE The Novice team was in Drayton to play their first game in the third playoff series. They knew that there was trouble ahead when they watched the “B” team play a game ahead of them. The Drayton “A” team was a much stronger more evenly balanced hockey team than any team they had met previously. Drayton was victorious in scoring seven goals to Brussels two. Tim Machan scored unassisted and Matt Lee assisted by Tim and Trevor Machan scored the only Brussels goals. They were sche­ duled to play their second game on Tuesday night in Brussels. MIDGETS The Midget team participated in the annual Lockridge tournament in Wingham on Sunday. They were victorious in defeat­ ing Shallow Lake by a 5 - 2 score. Sean Kieffer and Marty Rutledge led the Brussels attack with two goals each. Jim English scored a single. Assists went to Dean Lawrie with three, Paul Koetsier, two, Shawn Bremner, Marty Rut- ledgeand Jim English, singles. They will play again on Tuesday night in the tournament. They should have a game at home on Wednesday night. BANTAMS The Bantam team participated in the annual tournament in Harriston on Saturday morning, against the old rivals from Dray­ ton. There was no scoring in the first periodand Drayton got the only goal of the second period to take the lead. Barry Blake scored unassist­ ed for Brussels at the 7:54 minute of the third period. One minute and 11 seconds later Bruce Johnston assisted by Dean and Rodney Nicholson scored the winning goal. This game was the usual rough brand of hockey but luckily the most penalty minutes were chalk- edupagainstthe coach who was very upset with the officiating. The Bantams went back to Harriston on Sunday morning for their second game of the tourna­ ment. The opposition was provided by Mildmay and proved to be a very fast, clean game of hockey with only four penalty minutes in the entire hockey game. The first period was a scoreless tie. Dean Nicholson scored on a pass from Mike Fraser at the 7:49 mark of the second period to put Brussels in the lead. Mildmay came back to tie the game with no time remaining on the clock. At 10:42 of the third period, a pass from Rodney Nicholson and BruceJohnstonputBrian Alcock in the clear to score the winning goal ofthegame. Agreateffortbyall the players and good goal tending put the boy’s into the semi-finals against Oakwood at 6 p.m. Oakwood scored thefirstgoal but Dean Nicholson unassisted tied the game for Brussels. At the mid-way point Mike Fraser scored from Dean Nicholson to put Brussels in the lead at the end of the first period. Rodney Nicholson assisted by Dean Nicholson scored after 38 seconds in the second period to give Brussels a two-goal lead. Dean Nicholson unassisted added one more goal before Oakwood got their second goal. This proved to be all the scoring for the game as the third period was scoreless. The team is to be commended for getting only 8 minor penalties in the three games played. By defeating Oakwood, Brussels ad­ vances to the championship game which was to be played on Tuesday night.
