Walton UCW meets Visit to Pro-lifers show 'The Silent Scream' Thirteen ladies attended the generalU.C.W. meeting, Wed­ nesday afternoon, March 5 in the church basement. Walton II was in charge of devotions, led by Karen Hoegy assisted by Marilyn McDonald and Margaret Craig. Olene Dennis had the topic on Stewardship and Finance. The business portion was chair­ ed by Dorothy Sholdice, 2nd vice president. Minutes were read by Marilyn McDonald. Marion God­ kin reported on the Huron-Perth 4-H dub elects officers Sports club Walton I, 4-H Club of the new project “Etiquette in the 80’s’ ’ held their second meeting Monday evening, March 3 at Elsie Carter’s home. First the meeting began with the 4-H pledge. The officers were appointed as follows: president, Glenda Carter; vice-president, Pam Nolan; secretary, Sherry Hoegy; press reporter, Heather Baan. Roll call was answered by four girls who then discussed how to get along with your family. Members learned how to answer the phone correctly and take phone messag­ es. After learning to give a party and send out correct invitations, members discussed good table Regional meeting she had attend­ ed in Exeter recently and also offered to look after the poster for the London Conference to be held in Stratford April 14 - 15. In their business it was decided to have a pitching clinic on May 31 for anyone interested at the Walton Ball Park. The monthly draw winners were Glen Falkiner, Goderich, $100 and M. & M. Duma, $25. A great matter of concern of pro-lifers is the failure of the Liberal government to close down the D.r. Morgentaler clinic in Toronto. Pro-lifers in this riding are arranging a meeting with Murray Elston, MPP, to discuss the matter. All Canadian pro-lifers have been urged to join the Upjohn boycott, intitiated by the National Right to Life in the US. Upjohn is the only American pharmaceutical­ company which supplies drugs for use in second trimestre abortions. Moreover, the company has as its goaltodevelop an abortifacient which can be self-administered by women, preferably at home. It is hoped that members will write to the Upjohn Co. in Kalamazoo, Michigan, stating their boycott of Upjohn drugs and that alternative products manufactured by other companies will be used. The 1986 memberships are now due. Each member will be asked to recruit one new member. Current membership stands at approxi­ mately 400. Bell Canada warns of naughty numbers Bell Canada is advising parents in this area that certain telephone numbers in the United States provide access to Adult Entertain­ ment messages that may be inappropriate for children. These numbers are accessible from Cana­ da by dialing 1-900 plus the number. Peter Croome, Bell’s local man­ ager said the numbers are being advertised in certain adult maga­ zines and that a charge applies. ‘ ‘The numbers are being passed by word of mouth and people think they are toll-tree. In fact, there is a 50 cent charge for the first minute and a 35 cent charge for each additional minute.’’ Peter Croome said. Parents may wish to review telephone usage with their child­ ren and establish guidelines for all types of calls.
