He has been reeve of Brussels for six years and is the present warden of Huron County. The other candidate, H. J. Stretton, 'told the Post that he withdrew his name because he faces a fairly long schedule of medical appointments. Veteran councillor Hank Ten Pas withdrew his name from both council and PUC nominations Tuesday. That leaves six candidates for council and two for PUC. Councillors Frank Stretton, Harold Bridge and George Jutzi told the 17 people at the meeting that they all plan to tun *gain. Mr. Bridge said he thought council salaries should he increased from the present $625. per year. Harold Bridge still had his name in' for both council and PUC• at press time but there was speculation that he would stand for PUC. One person cannot hold both offices. The other name in nomination for PUC is that of present commissioner Alec Keffer. The two would be acclaimed to office but if one , or both of them withdraws another nomination date would have to be held. Still listed as candidates for the four positions on Brussels council The village is in good financial shape, he said, with welfare spending well beloW budget. Councillor Ten Pas said the village had concentrated on drainage rather than on roads and that roads were generally in good condition. Blacktopping is planned on some' streets but no extensive construction because -of the possibility of sewer, construc- tion nextyear. Councillor Frank Stretton reported that policing of the village is generally good ; that garbage collection has improved that an $8000 tractor had been bought for the village and that new lights had been installed at the ball diamond. $5000 to $6000 had been spent On ithproVing the fire depart- • trient's equipment and building, councillor Harold Bridge repotted. Brussels voters may also be electing .a trustee to the Huron County School Board. Present trustee Charlie Thomas and former trustee Don McDonald have both been nominated. However, the pre-Christmas gift, of a beautiful, thoroughbred pup, to a shut-in father, sure helped to relieve the gloom. Parade. Dec. 11 The Brussels' Legion sponsored Santa Claus parade Will be held on Saturday, Decemb er 11, the committee in charge had decided, The Legion sponsors the annual parade and organiies it, contrary fo a story 'in laSi week's Post which gave credit to the Ilrussets Business Association. The BSA are just' participants in the anntial -parade. \ Details of Santa's long awaited visit to BriiiSSeIS Will be published in future issues of the Post. Village in good shape, council voters' meeting The coming Municipal Election did not seem to have stirred up much excitement in the village until early this week. By Monday things were popping. Early Tuesday morning three were in the running for' Reeve, seven for council and four for P.U.C. At time of this writing two ,have withdrawn for reeve. It is at least good to know that there are citizen who are anxious to serve. May the best stand and the most qualified to fill the position they 'seek, be elected, ***-:t*" A Bazaar is a sure-fire event that will attract customers, especially when Christmas is approaching. The bazaar and bake sale held by the Majestic Wonien's Institute in the Brussels Library on Saturday, November 13th did just that.It was a decided success. It was well patronized. The array of articles offered, including crafts and delicious home baking,• found ready sale.
