KING Returning Officer Villagebf-i3rtiSSOIS 22-53-1 meets in Brussels 22 members of Huron's Alpha gathered in Brussels' Public School for their October meeting, The highlight of the evening was a showing of slides of the Central Ontario Developmental Riding Program. Linda Hale of Cambridge, Program Co-ordin- ator, gave the commentary, while Sue Mirtin of Pineview Stables, 71, Shakespeare, ran the projector. Pineview Stables is one of an affiliated group of four designed to teach indoor and outdoor riding to both normal and handicapped persons. Both girls are actively involved in teaching the handicapped to ride. Through the slides, they showed how, the young and the not-s-young are taught to overcome such problems as lack of balance and fear of heights. Riding opens new doors, Persons who h ave always been confined to wheelchairs, literally find their first legs. They are able to explore terrain heretofore impassable. AnyOne may ride at the stables for a reasonable fee, but no handicapped persons are turned away for lack of funds. Mary Howell thanked the girls on behalf of the members for an interesting and informative evening. Lunch was served by Edythe Warwick assisted by Pat. Watson and Bessie Townshend, The next meeting will be held in Wingham at the home of Mary Scott On Tuesday, November 23 at 8 P.M. Everyone is welcome. Board supports resolutions The Huron County Board of Education agreed to support two resolutions, one dealing with Hydro 'rates and another dealilng with school insurance, when it met on Monday afternoon. The Elgin county Board of Education resolution noted that, "-Whereas the insurance premiums payable by Boards of Education throughout the `Province of Ontario hav esca- lated drastically within the past two y ears, be it resolved that the Elgin County Board of Education contact all other Boards in the Province and the Trustee Organizations requesting that the Ontario Trustee Council investsigate the possibility of Ontario School Boards starting an Ihsurance Fund with the view to making the Ontario School Boards _self-insuring." A second resolution, from the same source, urged that a letter be forwarded to the Minister of Energy expressing opposition to the proposed increase in hydro rates. It was the position of the Elgin Board that the continual "high increases in hydro rates, 30.5 per cent in 1977, as compared to an increase of 10.8 per cent in the maximum ordinary expenditure per pupil which will be recognized for grant purposes over the 1976 fnaxirriinn i only leads to a further erosion of the4ionteS available to the Board to 'spend on actual classroom instruction of its students." that "Each. aotttt trti enxelicraeesaessai passing gi in hyheeyadrifilocb:retalitaLs allowable by the Ministry of education in the expenditure' ceilings and is now reaching a point of inajot concern," it said. 22.
