Despite objections from the
Brussels Agricultural Society and
some citizens, the committee in
charge of the new arena for
Brussels, Morris and Grey feel
they have chosen the best site.
The committee decided August
30 on a site offered by Jack
&Os consisting of five acres on
he south east edge of the village.
However, last Monday a
delegation from the Fair Board
objected to the site saying that
the arena should be located at the
fairgrounds,
The Agricultural Society said
hey. would make the land
available for the cost of moving
the buildings and shortening fhe
track.
"It doesn't make too much
sensetobind the arena in an area
like that," said Jim Prior,
chairman of the new arena
committee, Saturday. "There
isn't any room there if we should
ever want to expand."
Mr. Prios said the site offered
Bryans for $1 leaves lots of
room for expansion and is well
drained. Mr. Bryans has stated •
that hell give the town an option
On more land adjacent to the
arena site for five years and
tenger if they want it, Mr. Prior
said, ,
By building the arena on the
Bryans site, nothing would have
lo he moved or destroyed, Mr.
Prier pointed out.
"There it would he out where
everybody could see it, and if'
yore going to spend half a
million dollars why not have it out
where the people can see the
blasted th ing?"
Mr. Prior said the committee
had taken "a lot of flak" because
a=ss road will have to be
built and this would add to the
costs.,
'''Even at the fair grounds,'the
arena would still be quite a
distance from services available.
Let's get it in the proper place
even if it costs extra. People are
only, thinking of the present and
that's too bad."
Mr. Prior and Shirley Consitt, -who is in charge of publicity for
the arena committee- said at least-
five other sites were discussed
before the Bryans site was
chosen.,
Mrs. Cossitt said that the
fairgrounds site was ruled- out
when they heard that the Turf
Club did not want the track'
shortened.
Finally by August' 30 the
committee had narowed their
choice down to three sites, one
down the 10th of Grey and two at
the south end of the village. The
committee voted unanimously for
Jack Bryan's site, she said.
Mrs. Cossitt said she was
disturbed by the rumours
circulating.-
"1 even heard a rumour that
the committee had turned down
the wintario grant. This at a time
when we are preparing to apply
for it. People are not using their
heads," she said.
Grey' Township council" haVe
asked the committee planning the
new arena for Brussels, Morris
and Grey for' more informafion on
their building plans. At their
regular meeting-last Monday, the
township council passed a resolu-
tion to that effect and asked that
either a representative from the
council or from Grey's recreation
committee be ,invited to future
meetings on the new arena.
In other business, Grey council
decided to ask Maitland

Thanksgiving Day is past but
that does not mean we should
forget the many things we have to
be thankful for. Good Health is a
blessing we do not appreciate
until we do not have it. It is
indeed something to be thankful
for everyday our lives.
We forget in our personal
problems how much we y _ally
have to be thankful for. There are
few of us who go hungry. We
have been spared floods,
tornadoes and other disasters of
nature. If we have a happy family
relationship we are indeed
fortunate. There is a multitude of
things for which to be thankful

We continue to hear reports of
fatal accidents on our highways.
Unfortunately so many of them
snuff out the lives of young
people in their teens And early
twenties or rxiaiin them for life.
When will the slaughter on our
highways and roads cease? Not
until every driver, young and
oldet,i take precautions to drive
sanely and safely.
Plans and fund raising go
ahead for the new Community
Centre for Brussels, Morris and
Grey, so does the controversy
over the project,. There have been
complaints from several quarters
that the public of the communities
arid others involved are hot kept
inforrned about what is takitig
place and have not been
consulted before plans are
finalized. It is too bad there is so
much bard feeling being
generated Over torttething that is
for the good of the whole area.
