Club of Brussels will conduct a canvass for the Canadian Arthritis and Rheumatism Society on Monday, October 4th, Campaign chairman, Mrs. Lois McCall states that some of the funds raised will be used to help control arthritis now but the main purpose of the campaign !will be to provide money for research and education. In announcing the canvass officials pointed out that this is the time of the year set aside to give people an opportunity to help in the fight .against the nation's most crippling and painful disease. it is a time to look at less fortunate people and contribute.to their better health \ and being. It is a time, too, to change attitudes — to look at the handicapped with new eyes and see the person, not the handicap. Child abuse seminar planmed The Child Abuse Committee of theHuron County Children's Aid Society announced plans this week for a seminar on October 13 on the subject of "Detection and Prevention of Child Abuse in Huron County". The seminar will be held in the board tooth of the - Huron County Assessment office beginnitig at 10:00 a,m- . . lower show raises $153 AccOrding to Child Abuse CoMmittee representative Esther Ross, the victims ages range from the newborn up to the age• of 16. The abuser is usually an adult who is legally. "in possession of . the, child". This legal guardian either personally 'causes the injury' or neglect, or allows someone else to do it. Mrs. Ross said the group hopes to have a good attendance of professionals from.the medical, educational, and legal fields who are most likely to be the ones to HEY! ITS ASTHMA WEEK! Arthritis and the other rheumatic diseases can now be treated to prevent disability in many cases which are diagnosed early. Researchers still look ahead hopefully to the day when there is a cure, especially•for the `crippler', rheumatoid arthritis. The main purpose of the research program is to provide opportunities for the training of rheumatologists and to ensure better delivery of health care 'services for arthritis sufferers. All residents of Brussels, Walton and community will have the opportunity to help in the fight on . the 4th of October. Increased funds and increased understanding will benefit the giver more than the receiver and residents are urged to try to see the arthritis sufferer with their hearts and help to make him free. identify and report child abuse due to their close contact with children. Guest speaker at the session will be Dr. Robert Bates, Pediatrician Director, Child Ablise Team at the Hospital for Sick. Children 'at Toronto., A' film entitled "Fragile, Handle with Cate" will also be shown. Tentative topics for discussion include, "What constitutes Child Abuse?", "Reporting of Child Abuse vs Professional Ethics", "What happens when Child Abuse, is reported?", •• and • "What 'may happen if a, report isn't made?" This is an open meeting and there is no charge The Brussels Htqliculturat Society met September10 in 'the Public Library when 18 members and 5 guests were present. Mrs. D. Hemingway Vide President presided. Mlss Leanne Armstrong favoured with 2 tape numbers and everyones feet kept time. Mrs. • Jas, Moir expressed thanks and - presented a remembrance. The results of the flower 'show were • given the Society having a balance of $153.55. The November meeting will be 4 pot kick supper . Miss Rene Jouwsma from Wingham 'made several floral demonstrations I;mostly from flowers members had ,brought. Mrs Cudmote thanked Mrs. Wm. Miller Won. the doot prize and Mrs. F. Shaw, Mrs; Reid, Mts. Jas. Mak, m_lt. McCall, Mrs: C. emingway, M rs. Elsie Evans ,won the floral arrangements.. Lunch was seved by Mrs, Jas. Armstrong, ,Mrs G. Gibson, Mrs. Walter Kett.
