Funeral !held for accident-.victim
A largely attended funeral was.
held Friday from Walton' United
Church for Donald Achilles; 35, of
Walton who lost his life last
uesdaY in a grader accident.
Re's/. E. Baker officiated at the
service held at 2:30. Pallbearers
were Joe Stessler, - Tony
Midclepei, Rigt. Marks, Gary-
Bennett, Ron BEnnett, and Don
Nolan. Flower bearers were
Wayne LoWe,, Bob Arthur, Tom
Haggitt, Wat Reid,- Bob
Humphries and George Taylor.
Mr. Achilles was run over,by a
road grader he was' operating for
theHuron County . roads
department on County Road 30,
north of Fordwich.
Wingham OPP said Mr.
Achilles was operating the grader
alone a short distance from a'
group of other county workers
about noon. The workmen noticed
the operatorless grader off the
road, smoking and with its wheels
spinning. When they investigat
ed, they found the dead man
nearby.
POlice said it's not clear
whether the man fell from the cab
of the grader or was working
around the grader when the
accident happened.linvestigation
of the accident is continuing
and the • -Ministry of Labour's
construction safety branch has
been notified, the OPP said.
The late Mr. Achilles leaves his
wife,. the . former- . Kathy
McTaggart of Brussels, and three
children, Danny, Dwayne and
Chiistine, all .at home. His
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rolly
Achilles, 'also live in Walton.
He is also survived by two •
Donald. Achilles

sisters, Marg, Mrs. Bill Taylor of
Kintail and Anne, Mrs. Jim Sills
of Seaforth and one-brother, Jerry
Of Fergus.

the backs of' the beef producers
more than any other gireup,'.!

Cattlemen's AssOciation, told a
group of 176 beef producers at an
information meeting held at the
Pine Ridge Chalet .at Hensall
Wednesday night.
Mr. Gracey said the federal
government is quite content to let
beef farm'ers carry more than
their fair share In the battle
againsts inflation, and "there is
little interest in Ottawa in letting ,
you off the hook".
He cited the information that
low beef prices have been
mentioned repeatedly as major
factor in the decli ne in the
consumer prioe ,index.
A number Of. unpredictable-
factors have fouled up the cattle,
market this year, Mr. Gracey
said, including the Massive
increases in off-shore imports of
low' priced beef -- up 58 per cent
over last year. !WIty ,shonld

Mr. Gracey said the surplus of
beef in Canada is mainly caused
by the high, rate of heifer and cow
marketing last year. And again
this year it is' exceeding all
expectations, with heifer kill-
15 per cent above last year and
cow kill .18 per cent above.
- "It goes without saying, of
course, that if we weren't
' marketing so many heifers and
cows our domestic prices would
have been, stronger". The poor
return in the cow-calf sector has
led to the very heavy heifer and
cow marketings, he ekplained.
Mr. Gracey critized farmers
who hold cattle beyond ,t acceptable market weights to
