Huronview
LAWRENCE VANNAN
Lawrence Vannan of Belgrave
died in Wingham and District
Hospital on Monday, August 2,
after a lengthy illness.
He was born in London,
England in 1894. He was married'
in 1936 in St. Thomas Anglican
Church, Seaforth to Mildred
Perdue of East. Wawanosh who
survives.
His parents were the late
Robert and Mary Vannan,
London, England. He is survived
by a brother, Donald of Windsor
and 3 brothers are deceased.
Mr. Vannan worked with the
Postal and Express Branch,
Canadian Customs, Walkerville.-
He came to. Canada in 1904 to
Thamesville and retired to Bel-
grave in 1947. He .was a member
of Trinity Anglican, Belgrave, the
Canadian Legion, Windsor Lodge
403 and Ark Chapter 80, Mocha
Shrines Temple. In World War 1,
'he served in the 241st Battalion of
Windsor.
The funeral was held August 4,
from the R.A. Currie Funeral
Home, Wingham. Rev. T.K.
Hawthorne officiated. Interment
followed in Brandon Cemetery,
Belgrave.
Pallbearers were: Clarence
Hanna, Clifford Purdon, Ross
Anderson, John Rinn, all of
Belgrave, nephews Kenneth
Vannan and Malchom Vannan,
Windsor.
HENRY DENT
A former Brussels business-
man, Henry Dent, died in
Saugeen Memorial Hospital,
Southampton, on Saturday, July
31. He was in his 86th year.
Born in Bruce Township on
November 6, 1890, he was the son
of the late Christopher Dent and
Jane Pace.
Mr. Dent resided in Under-
wood from 1912 until 1948. He
operated the Underwood Tele-
phone Exchange from 1912 to
1946 and was postmaster in
Underwood for 25 years. He came
to Brussels in 1948 and was in the
shoe repair and shoe store
business here until retirement in
1973. He had lived in Southamp-
since 1974..
His wife, the former Isabel
Cameron, predeceased her
husband in 1956.
He is survived by one son,
Alan, of Tiverton and four

Funeral services were held
from. the W. Kent Milroy Funeral
Home, Port Elgin, on Tuesday,
August 2, at 2:00 p.m., with. Rev.
D. Black officiating. Burial took
place in Lovat Cemetery.
Pallbearers were: - Norman
Powell, Clifford, Cameron, Maur-
ice Cameron, Stuart Cameron,
Russell Howe, John Bonnett.
MRS. OSWALD HEMINGWAY
Word was received Saturday of
the death of Mrs. Wm. Oswald
Hemingway, a sister-in-law of
Bert and Carl Hemingway in k
Lubbock, Texas. She was the
former Iva Wildfong of Elmwood.
She taught school in Ontario and
in Detroit where they lived for
many years, achieving her B.A.
degree in education.
She is survived by her husband
(a native of Brussels), one son,
Dr. Richard Hemingway, 3
grandchildren of Lubbock and one
sister of Los Angeles.
WILLIAM JOHN McCUTCHEON
William John McCutcheon died
.at the Wingham and District
Hospital on Sunday, AuguSt 8,
in his 85th year. He was the son of
the late Frank McCutcheon .and
Eliza Speiran.
He is survived by his wife the
former Bessie Campbell, two
sons, Don and Harold, of London,
11 grandchildren and 11 great-
grandchildren, one sister, Mrs.
Ada Craig of Huronview, one
brother, Wesley of Bolton. He
was predeceased by one brother,,
Harvey and one sister, martha,
Mrs. Wm. Sholdice.
Mr. McCutcheon was a
member of St. John's Anglican,
Church, and a member of the
Loyal Orange Lodge for 67 years.
The funeral was held from the
M.L.Watts Funeral Home on
Wednesday, August 11, at 2 p.m.
with Rev. Kenneth H awthorne
officiating. Pallbearers were
neighbours Carson Watson,
Thomas Miller, Thomas Bernard
and nephews Clarence McCut-
cheon, Harvey Craig and Wm.
Craig. Flower bearers were
nephews Frank Workman and
Alvin Jones.
Burial followed in the St.
John's Anglican Cemetery on the
6th line of Morris Township.
Mrs. Muriel Harrison sang two solo numbers at the Sunday
morning chapel, sesrvice conducted by the Chaplain Rev,
McWhinnie.
Mr. Bob Heywood, of Exeter, entertained on "Family
Night" singing sacred, country & Western and old tyme
tunes. Bob provided his own accordion accompaniment by
using his sound equipment . Everyone both in the building
and out on the lawn were able to enjoy the music. Two
sisters, Grace Campbell and Ruth Townsend sang two sacred
numbers and Scotty Easton a long 'time friend of Bob
Heywood, expressed the appreciation of the residents.
Thirty-one members of the "Over 90" club met on the
north patio on Wednesday afternoon. Music for the afternoon
was provided by Mrs. Elsie Henderson with her portable
organ and Karen McGregor with the accordion. The
Walkerburn volunteers assisted with the activities and the
kitchen staff provided the lunch.
