The Brussels Post, 1976-07-21, Page 8Family honours Ritchies on their 40th anniversary Mr. and Mrs. John G. Ritchie of Brussels were honored guests at a family party on the occasion of their 40th Wedding anniver- sary. Guests met at the home of the anniversary couple and pro- ceeded to the Walton Inn for dinner. They returned to the home where a happy social evening included the presentation of several gifts to the bride and groom of forty years ago. Mr. and ,Mrs. Ritchie have three children, Robert of Chat- ham, Mrs. Bonnie Wilson and Kenneth of Brussels, and five grandchildren. . Also present for the occasion were Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Ritchie and Mr. and Mrs. Arm- strong Wilson of Lucknow and. Mr. and Mrs. Dalton Chessell and Mrs. Mabel Cruickshanks of Wingham. Regis- tration for campers was Saturday afternoon, with John Strickler of Brussels and Reid Stewart of Stratford at the gate. By 10:00 p.m. the dance floor was full with many new members registering. Many Clinton merchants donated prizes for the contests, and at 10:15 p.m. there was Ladies' Choicewhen ladies had to find the man who hadn't danced all evening. Marg Freeman of Clinton and Hedley Prouse of Goderich were the winners of a clock• each, both donated by Anstett Jewelers of Clinton. At 11:50 p.m. the newest lady and man member registered from the furthest away were Liz Gridley of Guelph, winning a flower arrangement from the Shadow Box in Clinton and John Jackson of Hanover, who won Brute cologne donated by Camp- bell's Men's Wear.'. On Sunday, July 18, the picnic involved games conducted by John Strickler and . Helen Hoggart. In the scavenger hunt, first prize man John Strickler of Brussels won a wash mitt donated Being active doesn't have to be a memory. 4•1 paRnaparnan Miss Donelda Stiles of Brussels (formerly of Brussels) received First Class honors 'in her theory examination held by the Royal Conservatory of Music in the Central School, . Stratford. Don- elda is the daughter of.Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Stiles, and grand.: daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Steiss of Brussels. Ernie Back left on Monday for a Holiday trip to Luxemberg. It has been 14 years since Mr. Back has visited there and said he expects to find many changes. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Turnbull returned home Friday from a sixteen day vacation tour of the British Isles. Leona and Leanne Armstrong spent the past week In Almonte, Ottawa and Bancroft. was Marie Eckert of 'Clinton, receiving a brush and comb set from Newcombes Drug Store. The balloon full of water, two to a con*, was won by Arnold Wasnidge and Helen Jones of Centralia. Arnold received a comedy ornament from C. & E. Hobby and Variety and Helen' won a pair of slippers from Mary's Sewing. Centre. At 5:30 p.m., auctioneer Gord Brindley, assisted by John Strick- ler, auctioned off the lovely wrapped suppers to the men, brought by the ladies. ' Gord reminded all there was no sales tax involved (as it wasn't his regular machinery auction.)! The monies are going to charity, and the highest bidder was Arnold Wasnidge paying $23. for a lunch . brought by Helen Jones. Auctioneer Gord Brindley was presented with after shave donated by Frank's Barber Shop, for a job well done. Gord Brindley bid high and got the last surprize supper brought by Marie Eckert who barbequed lovely steaks. This couple's picture was taken while enjoying the steaks so watch your local paper for photos soon. Many other merchants gifts will be given for spot dances at the Vanastra Rec. Centre, July 24 and July 31 and at the Seaforth Legion on August 14. David Huether and Rick. McDonald are enjoying a visit to the West Coast. Jim King, Atlanta, Georgia, is spending some time at the home of Gordon Workman, Hank ten. Pas 'and James Armstrong before going to Wildwood Camp at St. Marys, Jim is visiting.through the Youth Exchange Programme of the Lions Club. Mrs. Ethel Bone , and Mrs. Dorothy McCauley spent Sunday , at the home of Mrs. Verena Mine of Wingham where Mrs. Mabel McMichael and Mr. and Mrs. Rex Richardson 'of Detroit were hol- idaying. • Mrs. Robert Kennedy of Ot- tawa was a visitor for a few days last week with Mrs. R.W. Ken- nedy. Her daughter Janice, who spent last week with her grand- mother returned home to Ottawa with her mother. Mrs. Mary Huether and Miss Anita Harrison are attending the Mary Helen Richards' Music Workshop sponsored .by Sir Wil- fred Laurier University, Water- loo, and held at Central Second- ary School, Stratford, for most of the month of July. Second prizes went to Ethel Walker of Brucefield and Marie Eckert of Clinton who •were presented with mugs donated by the Hully Gully Sports and Recreation. These prizes were well earned. Contestants had to find such things as a three-inch worm, one red button, 1 oz. of lake water, a frog, two barley heads, a cedar shingle, a hand full of hay, a pet rock and so on. Yes there were Hot Clothes., not Hot Potatoes and you weren't eliminated, you had to model, clothes from a bag if you were caught with it when the whistle blew. Winner was, Ethel Walker of Brucefield with a, gift from Holland Shoes. The men tied with winners Jim White of Stratford' receiving a gift from McKerlie Automotive-and Gord Brindley of Goderich receiving a gift from Clinton Electric. Then came the pantyhose' and potato relay and after a little practice and laughs by the seven participants, the whistle blew to start and the first man was Arnold Wasnidge of Ailsa Craig winnin Brute cologne ' from Herman's Men's Wear and the first lady.
