102 Brussels kids are enjoying
swimming lessons at the Howick
Township pool in Gorrie this
summer. Thanks to hard work
and money from the Brussels
Legion. The Post reported • by
mistake recently that the
swimming lessons are financed
by the Brussels Lions and that is
only partly right.
Legion members do all the
organization work, enrolling the
kids, arranging for buses
supervising the youngsters to and
from lessons. The Lions Club
shares the bill for expenses wit!'
the Legion after the program
over.
Mrs. Elaine Nichol, who's
husband Allan works with the
Legion sports program says that
last year one bus to transport the
kids to lessons cost about $300
This year there are two buses
needed and costs will probably
double.
Even with 102 registered, some
kids had to be turned away
because there just wasn't room
for any more at the lessons, Mrs.
Nichol said. A great many of the
children are in pre-beginners.
"Last year we had quite a few
seniors but this year there is only
one."
She says the swimming lesson
sponsors are happy to see
