This report is based on assessment, not population at all. It is just out of line. I wonder why they've `•'—chosen taht method." "We should be looking beyond our township boundaries," stated Reeve Jewitt. "It would be an awful headache but it might be worth the effort." Reeve Simon Hallahan agreed. The East Wawanosh reeve said he was sastisfied to see his municipality together with Blyth and Morris Township, but• suggested that school board members might be elected according to districts, rather than boundaries. Deputy-reeve Jim Mair of Morris said he could understand some of the dissastisfaction. He said Brussels, Morris and Grey had always been "a sort of community", "But the new way may suit as many of them as the old way," he said. The entire matter was referred back to committee with a decision to be reached at the June session of county council. 10** attS Ott READ and USE POST CLASSIFIED DIAL DIRECT 20 ‘w,the' BRUSSELS MAY16i 406 . Reeve John Flannery of Seaforth said his council thought mayors from the five towns should sit on county council instead of the reeves. Goderich Reeve Stan Profit said that when extra deputy-reeves were added at the beginning of 1975, council did not become more efficient in his view.. "If we are no more efficient with more," reasoned Reeve Profit, "then it just naturally follows we will be no less efficient with less members." Reeve Simon Hallahan of East Wawanosh said simply, "For God's sake, leave us alone." Deputy- reeve Ralph McNichol of McKillop felt it was a "real good thing" for a deputy-reeve to have a few years experience at county council before stepping up. "Large numbers can be time consuming," said Reeve Fred Haberer of Zurich. ' "Today has proved it." He did add that if municipalities were represented by only one memb er in the future, provision should be made for alternate representation in the event that some reeve became ill or was otherwise absent for a long period of time. This happened a few years ago at Lambton County when the reeve of Grand Bend pamphlet cntic¢ed A "lure brochure" put out by the Southwestern Ontario Travel Association (SWOTA) to promote "Huron - The Sun 'n Surf County of Southwestern Ontario" for distribution in the United States, Europe and other parts of Canada was severely criticized by Deputy-Reeve Frank Cook of Clinton at Thursday's session of Huron county Council as being "heavily Goderich". Reeve Cook, a member of the county development committee, was perturbed that he hadn't been allowed to speak before W. Morgan, manager of SWOTA who attended the session to review the activities of ,the organization. Reeve Cook pointed out . that while the committee in its report had asked for council's endorsation to pay a grant of $3,150 toward SWOTA for 1976, it had also recommended that the county's participation in SWOTA in 1977 be reviewed. "All I can see in it is Goderich," sated Reeve Cook, holding aloft a copy of the colorful brochure. "I don't believe in paying tax dollars to Goderich." The 12-page booklet had 21 pictures in it According to Cook, six or seven of them depicted Goderich scenes. "Whk's wrong with some on Of the inland places?" asked Reeve Allan Campbell, reeve of McKillop. "Why don't you read it?" asked Reeve Ed. Oddleifson who pointed out the names of several H uron County attractions not in Goderich. "I think we're being rather hard on the people who put out this brochure, just because the pictures perhaps don't give the widest view of the county." County development officer Spence Cuminings pointed out this was a "lure brochure" designed to get people to Huron. Once they arrived here many other, more complete brochures of things to do in. Huron, places to eat, places to sleep, etc. were available at many locations throughout Huron. It was pointed out there were also booklets listing industrial and commercial sites for persons who might be interested.
