A GIFT FOR 'MAMA' BAKER — Mrs. Anne Baker,
owner of the New American Hotel in Brussels for
about 40 years was honoured on her retirement at the
meeting of the Brussels Business Association
Wednesday night. Mrs. Baker, who was born in
Russia and now lives in the Senior Citizen

government's method of ordering
four hospitals dosed was illegal.
The acting Minister of Health
said the Provincial, Government
will not consider abandoning its
program of hospital - closing. so
the eventual outcome of the battle
to keep hospitals open is not over
yet.

Brussels stores will still close
on. Mondays and be open on
Wednesdays as they have for
several years- That was the way
the majority of the members of
the Brussels Business Association
voted at their dinner meeting last
week at the Legion,
There was a great deal of
discusson on the issue. Gordon
Workman asked where a farmer
could go to get a part or get
something fixed if machinery
broke over the weekend.
The BBA also discussed
offering free roller skating for
kids on Friday nights while their
parents are shopping in the
village. M ax Oldfield suggested
that parents could get a stamp
providing the free skating when

Huron County doesn't need any
further changes in its local
government as far as East
Wawanosh council is concerned.
Council . decided in. reply to
county council's "Report of the
Local Government Study
Committee" which recommended
county council. be cut from 45
members to 29 that "the council
of the Township of East
Wawanosh is quite satisifed with
press -nt structure of government
in Huron -County without any
further restructuring."
Council decided that

were suggested and someone
from CKNX will be asked to give
the BBA more information.
The group will get in touch with
the Maitland Valley Saddle Club
to see if they are interested in
running a horse show in Brussels

drug store in Brussels. "It's a
shame to have to drive so far to
get a prescription filled,"
someone in the audience said.
The BBA proposes to have nine
business meetings and one
entertainment night per year.
Meetings will be held the first
Wednesday of every month with a
director's meeting at 7:30 and the
general meeting at 8 p.m. No
meetings will be held in ,July or
August. A notice will be put in the.
Brussels Post to remind each
business of the meeting.
