PRESBYTERY MEETS HERE — United Church ministers from Huron and Perth
were in Brussels Tuesday. Included in business was a notice that the Moncrieff
congregation will cease to exist at the end of June. Rev. Eric Le Drew, Brussels, is
the Presbytery secretary and also in the photo are Rey. Cecil Wittich, Blyth and

Thank You Letter
In late February we received a
letter from the Red( Cross asking
us if we would make a donation
towards the relief of the people
that had been left homeless after
the earthquake in Guatemala..
After much fund raising, it was
found that we had raised $309.22
,in relief money for the people of
Gautemala.
We were pleasantly surprised
to receive a letter of thanks from
J. Bush, Director Internatiohal
Affairs for the Red Cross. He said
that there should be rewards for
people like us who care about
other people. The money was
used to aid the people in ,
Guatemala,
I know that you ,and I are glad
that the money has been received
and put to good use.

stop until the end of last year.
They induced farmers to expand
and they have a responsibility to
protect them now that they are
faced with - this crisis", Mr.
Riddell told the Expositor. "If
farmers can't put faith in
government, then I don't see who
they can put faith in" he added.
"It isn't printable", was
Huron-Bruce M.P.P. Murray
Gaunt's reaction to the
announced cutback. Mr. Gaunt
felt that the government should
declare an immediate moratorium
on repayment of the IMPIP loan
until farmers are over the hurdle
and that the difference between
what farmers received from milk
cheques in January, February
and March and what they
received in April and May should
be made up by the government to
cushion the impact of the 15%
cutback.
"You just cant turn cows on
and off like a tap", said Mr.
Gaunt. "Farmers need a chance
to adjust to the situation. The
problem 'didn't appear overnight
and the provincial government
should have done something
about it."
Gordon Hill, president of
the , Ontario Federation of
Agriculture, doesn't feel the
situation is all the government's
fault.
"There were danger signals
last summer. that the situation
would be like this and farmers
should have seen that. Farmers
who ,increase1 production were
not very wise," said Hill.
"The government was wrong,
but that doesn't exempt farmers
from not looking at the future,"
he said.
Kenneth M cKinnon, vice-
president of , the Ontario Milk
Marketing Board disagrees
however. •
"Nobody had any idea that we ,
were going to have this kind of a
surplus. The board certainly
didn't." he told a meeting of
dairy farmers in Blyth Thursday
night.
