UCH hold Easter meeting
The' ,n "Resurrection" read
by the president, rs Vera
Nicholson, opened the meeting of
the United Church Women held
on Wednesday afternoon.
Unit One • conducted the
worship service which began with
a hymn. Mrs. Viola Campbell
read scripture from the 28th
chapter of St. Matthew's Gospel.
Mrs. Nicholson presented the
topic, "I. Pilate". It told of the
events leading up to Jesus'
crucifixion as told by Pontius
Pilate - how he failed to save the
life of the Man he knew to be
faultless and how great was his
regret,it was pointed out that we,
too, have opportunity for
acceptance or
Mrs. Mary Peacock read two
poems, "Eastertime." and
"Easter is a Time To Look and
Listen". An Easter hymn and
prayer closed the worship service.
Mrs. Audrey Edgar conducted
a quiz on trees of the Bible and
another, quiz was conducted
concerning the facts of the Easter
story. Mrs. Donna Craig read a
poem, "The Story, of a Tulip."
During the business meeting,
23 members answered the roll call
and thank-you messages were
read. Mrs. Carol Campbell was
chosen to be key lady for the
World Day of Prayer 1977.
Members were reminded of the
invitation by St. Andrew's,
Presbyterian Church for April 20.
Those interested in attending the
weekend at Westminster were
asked to leave their, names.
It was announced that new
books had been purchased by the
U.C.W. for use in the library.
Several reported having written
letters objecting to violence,
obscene language and objection-
able advertising in the media.
After the business was
completed a hymn was sung and
closing 'prayer was given by Rev.
W. Brown.
A sale of baking was held
following the meeting, and
refreshments were served by Unit

Mrs.. Joe Walker
Rev. Wilena Brown of the
Bluevale United4 Church was
guest speaker for de.. Easter
Thankoffering meeting of the
W.M.S. of Knox Presbyterian
Church. Rev. Brown used
Springtime and Easter as her
theme. She said this is a glorious
time of year. ‘"Christ has risen,
and through Him all things are
possible. E abh one of us express
him or herself differently and
'rightly so, no matter who we are.
With God's help, all of us, have
this power and priviledge."
Rev. Brown used, as an
example, a little bulb. It starts to
sprout and the finished product is
a beautiful daffodil. Even the.
little bulb expressed itself in its
own way. We, too, can express
ourselves in a beautiful way just
as the little bulb did. •
A question and answer period
followed with a very intersting
discussion on the evening's topic.
Mrs. . Wayne Baswick presided
over the meeting in the absence
of president Mrs. Glenn Golley.
The meeting was opened with the
call to worship. Mrs, Baswick
' then_ welcomed the guests from ,
Bluevale, Belgra.ve and Belmore.
The hymn,. "Jesus Christ Is
Risen. Today" was sung. Mrs.
Harvey Robertson read scripture
and also gave comment • and
offered prayer. Mrs. William
Robertson favored the audience
with a solo "His Robe of Calvary"
with Mrs. Keith Moffatt as
pianist.
A short business period
followed. Mrs. Joe Walker and
Mrs. Ross. Gray received the
offering which was dedicated by
Mrs. Baswick. Mrs. Robertson
then sang "Thank You Ldrd."
Rev. Brown was introduced by
Mrs. Baswick, Mrs. Harry Elliott
thanked Rev. Brown and
presesnted her with a gift in
appreciation. The meeting was
closed with the hymn "O For a
Closer Walk with .God". A social
hour followed, the ladies of the
church serving lunch.
New Members
. There was a special Sunday
service at the United Church with
Rev. Wilena Brown in charge.
The Sacrament of Baptism was
carried out for Dana Christine,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ken
Mather& and Robert Michael
Denary and. Joanne Elizabeth
Edgar were received into full
Clerk of Turnberry Township,
Jack Fischer and treasure': Bill
Cruikshank were honoured at a
social gathering at the Bluevale
Community Hall on Wednesday
evening. More than 50 attended
to honqr the men and their wives.
Mr. Fischer has been clerk of
the township for 18 years taking
the position in 1958. Previously,
he served as a councilman for six
years and as reeve for six years.
Mr. Fischer was warden of
Turnberry in 1956.
Mr.Cruikshank concluded his
position as treasurer after serving
for 31 years. Mr. Cruikpank's
father held the position of
treasurer before him for a period
of 25 years.

members, Mrs, Bert Hastings,
Mrs. Ken Mathers and Mrs. Joe
.Nicholson were. received by
transfer, The Celebration. of the

Bradley Family of Clinton
entertained., During breaks in the
singing, many who attended
thanked Mr. Fischer and Mr.
Cruikshank for their excellent
service over the years.
The evening was concluded
last supper followed.
