Golden anniversary
recalls snow drifts inApril

An anti-smoking program -.for
the Grades 4, 5 and 6 classes, in
separate schools was endorsed-by
the Huron-Perth County Roman
Catholic School Board at a
meeting in Dublin Monday night.
The program was presented to
the board by Canadian •Cancer
Society representatives prior to
the regular board meeting, which
did n of get underwaylintil , after
10:00 p.m. The presentation was
followed by the board meeting in
committee-of-the-whole.
Because of the delay two
principals, Larry Cook of St.
Mary's School , Goderich, and
Ennis Murphy of St. Patrick's
School, Kinkora, who were
attending the board meeting as
observers, and the press
representative had a long wait in
a sideroom.
Resignations from the
following teachers were accepted:
Gertrude Pearson, Grades.1 - 2 at
Our Lady of Mount Carmel
School, R.R.#3, Dashwood; Mary
It was hard to believe that it
was April and not July during the
weekend. Easter skies were
indeed pouring radiant light. The
beautiful warm weather,
following so closely the snow and
the cold, made it seem we were
leaping directly into summer from
vvihter, missing spring entirely.
Folks were making good use of
the summerlike weather. The
More indolent ones lazing in the
sun while other were busy in
gardens or fields. Some Were
enjoying outdoor barbacue
Trees, whose leaves Were stark
and bare against the sky last. Week ; were greening at an
amazingly rapid rate. If only this
delightful weather will last,

gymnasium addition to St.
Patrick's School, Kinkora, at an

thirty year period resulting in the
total amount payable of

A family dinner was held at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Cardiff

friends called through the week at
their home in Ethel to extend
congratulations and good wishes

Co. for twenty years.
They have five children, Jack
and Jim of Brussels, Jenny of
Petrolia, Mrs. -George (Isabel)
Pearson of Ethel and Mrs. Robert
(Jean) Wolfe of Vernon, B.C.,
eighteen grandchildren .and two
great grandchildren.
They recall fifty years ago that
one guest ripped the step off the
buggy going through the deep
snow drifts on the way to the
wedding.
Brussels by horse and cutter over
a road full of 'pitch Wes'. After
the wedding, the bride and groom
went to Toronto by train. They
returned to reside on the groom's
farm on the third concession Of
Morris Township where they still
reside. ,
They have a family of four girls
and one boy; Isabel, Mrs. ' Bill.
