under the highway traffic act and
fifty-eight warnings were issued.

two motor vehicle collisions which

The Lions sponsored third
annual canoe race was held on
Saturday. It was also the first,
canoe race of the season for the
newly formed OntarioCtnoe Race
Association, of which the
Brussels Lions club is a member.
The event attracted canoeists
from as far away as Barrie,
Peterborough and Windsor,
among them the first place
winners in the professional class;
who were paddlers of Olymp ic
calibre.
The banks of the. Maitland,-in
the ten mile course from Ethel to
the Lions Park -in Brussels, were
lined with , spectators at every
vantage point and a gbod number
were at the Lions Park to welcome
them at the finish.
Gordon Ross of Ethel provided
volunteer Safety Patrol
throughout the race in which 74
canoeists participated in the
various classes. ,
The Lions awarded $150 in
prizes as well as trophies to the
following winners,
