Brantford won the right to play in the final by defeating Hanover 6 to 1. Arthur reached the final by virtue of a 2 to 1 victory over Merriton. In "AAA" diviSion play Brantford and Kitchener ended tied with two wins and a tie after their round robin play. They met on Sunday to decide the championship with Brantford edging the Kitchener Bauer Krauts 2' to 1. Brantford's Jody Mathews who scored Brantford's winning goal was picked as the "AAA" M.V.P. Ajax and Guelph played in the "AAA" Consolation final with Guelph taking the title by defeating Ajax 6 to 3. In "B" Division play Hanover defeated Brussels 1 to 0 in the B Championship Final. Handver 's goalie Scott White played brilliantly in turning aside many excellent scoring opportunities by Brussels. Scott White was picked at the M.V.P. in the "B" division of the tournament. Hanover reached the final by blanking Seaforth 4 to 0 and edging Listowel 4 to 3 in overtime. Brussels who re-entered the tournament in place of Walkerton who had to withdraw due to play-off commitments reached the final by defeating Mitchell 11 to 1 and Port Elgin 7 to 5. Those two victories gave Brussels th9 "B" division runner-up trophy. In their victory over Mitchell, Brussels' attack was lead by Kevin Wheeler with three goals and Danny Achilles with two goals. , Singles went to Richard Haveman, Dean Rutledge, Brian Wheeler, Murray Pipe, Doug shaw and Peter Bennett. In the second game Danny Achilles lead the Brussels' scoring with five goals. Kevin Wheeler rounded out the scoring with two goals. In the "C" division final Arthur whipped Glencoe 9 to 3 to win the Championship. Scott McCulloch of Arthur was picked the "C" division M.V.P. In "C" division Consolation play Grand Bend edged plattsville 2 to 1 with a goal with four seconds of play remaining in regulation time in the Championship game. In the "B" consolation play Seaforth defeated St. M arys 4 to 1 to win --the consolation title. Seaforth reached the final by defeating Wingham 7 to 1. St. m Marys reached the final by virtue of a 6 to 2 victory over Mitchell. The Optimist Atom Tournament Committee would like to thank all those who helped in any way to make the tournament a success. Team members are: front, left - Gary Pipe, Dean Wheeler,-Mike Smith, Kevin McArter, Jeff McGavin, Marty Rutledge, David, Wheeler, Back - Mike Bishop, Kevin Johnston, Tommie Ward, Tim Fritz, Wayne Wheeler, Rich Knight, Gary Godkin and Coaches Bruce Hahn, Brian Rutledge. (Photo by Langlois) Brantford Steelers top Optimists Atom tourney Two loCal teams travelled to Brantford on Friday night to participate in their Minor Hockey Tournament there. The Novice team - played against the Brantford Selects in their first game at 8• P.M. In an exciting game of hockey and after two overtime periods, the final score was Brantford 3 - Brussels 2. Goals were scored by Gary Pipe and Kevin McArter. In their second game on Saturday they defeated Kitchener 3 - 0. Tommy Ward scored 2 goals, Kevin McArfer 1. In their final game they played a team from_ Woodstock who defeated them 2 - 1. Tommy Ward scored the Brussels goal. The Midget team played their first gamea t 10 p.m. on Friday night against a team from Waterford whom they defeated 4 -2. Goals were scored by Bill Smith, Scott Bridge, Dave Stephenson, Steve Pletch. Their second game on Sunday morning was against Kitchener. In a .good game of hockey, Brussels scored the winning goal, in the first overtime period by a 5 ' -4 score. Scott Wheeler and Dave Stephenson scored 2 goals each with J erry Oleuchowski getting the winning goal in overtime. In their third game on Sunday at 5 p.m. against the Brantford Wesley church, they seemed to fade away and were defeated 10 0. Both teams are to be congratulated for their fine showing against teams which were all select teams from their local organizations. It was a good hockey boys. Fischer, BrusSels)- Becky Sharpe and Marilyn Fischer, all of Kitchener, captured first in the ladies tenpin bowling champion- ship. They cOiripeted against 33 other teatils tO Win. the title, They will be awarded their prize money, trophies and crests on the 19th of this month in Waterloo. TheY will compete in a tournament in Oakville in the near future.
