Some basements were flooded but damage was much less than in VVingham where some people had to leave their homes, and part of highway 4 was clOsed. The officers and directors of Brussels Agricultural Society met in Library Wednesday evening. ,Pres., Fred Uhler presided. Murray Scott, District Pres. and Ray Hauva were present, representing 4H clubs of Blyth and Belgrave. The society agreed to sponsor Brussels 4H calf clubs, Byth and Belgrave 4H Beef and Rabbit clubs and North Huron Trail Blazers Horse Club. Hallahan Brothers sponsor In the Brussel's Optimist Atom Tournament, the Merritton Kim- berley Clark Atoms retained their A Division Championship by defeating Hespeler 4-3 in over- time in the A Championship game on Sunday. Kevin Emond, the A Division, most valuable player, scored the winning goal after 5 minutes and seven seconds 'of sudden death overtime to clinch the victory for Meeritton. Merrit- ton reached the championship by slipping past Paris 3.1 in their first game and by beating Garden City Michigan 5-1. Hespeler the A Division runner up reached the final by defeating Elniers 5-3 and Goderich 5-1. Paris captured the A Division Consolation Chanipionship of the Optimist tournament by edging Elmira 6-5 in overtime. Darren Novak'S goal after 7 minutes and 42 seconds Of -overtime captured the championship for PariS. After losing to Merritton 3-1 in their first gatrie, Parigreached the final be defeating. Orangeville 3-1. Elmira reached the Consolation final by defeating the Kitchener Blue .Iays C Division Action Arthur and the Blyth and Belgrave 4H Dairy calf club. These clubs will com- pete and participate at Brussels Fall. Fair on Wednesday Septem- ber 22. To the usual Commercial Fea- ture classes, the directors added classes for Rabbits namely, Buck Sr. and Jr., Doe Sr. and Jr., Doe with letter, Fryers three and champion' Buck and Doe. Field Crop competitions are again being held in Barley, 3 way Glencoe won their first two games to reach the C Division champion- ship*game which will be played at 12:00 on Saturday March 27. Glencoe reached the final by defeating Kingsville and slipping past Palmerston 4-3. Arthur qualified. for the final by edging Plattsville 6-5 in overtime and defeating the defending champions, Brussels, 5-1 in their Second game. Brussels won their first game 10-0 over Harriston. Brussels attack was lead by Brian Wheeler with 3 vials, Doug Shaw with 2 and Kevin Wheeler with 2 goals. Singles went to Darrin. Watts, Richard Hoveman, and Robbie Cardiff. In their 5.1 loss.to Arthur Kevin Wheeler scored Brussels only goal. The Optimist tournament con.. finites Friday March 26 with. B division play beginning at 8:00 with Listowel playing' SeafOrth. If the past weekends hockey is any indication of the type of play that will be teen, the residents of Brussels are in-for -some thrilling, ' and highly conipetitVe hockey.• The AAA Division Play also begins., Friday evening with and 2 way mixed grains, ensilage and grain corn. Plans wereset up for the Fall, Fair Dance in the Brussels Arena, Friday evening July 16. Walter Ostanek Orchestra is supplying the music. • Peter March Midway has agreed to be at the Fall • FAir. Plans are being worked out for an extra shelter shed for cattle and calves at the Fair. Guelph Holody Platers playing the Kitchener Bauer Krauts at 7:00p.m. and Ajax tackling Brant- ford Nadrofshy Steelers at 8: IS Ip.m. Saturday and Sunday have a continuation of the AAA play along with the B and C Division championships and the Grand Championship.' Next weekend promises •exciting hockey enter- tainment so come to the arena and support the tournament.
