A ratepayer asked Brussels
council Monday night to enlarge
the village snow removal
.operation to include thearea in
front of his business. Casey
MdCutcheon of Brussels Motors
said in a letter to council that
since village employees removed
snow in front of McCutcheon
Motors in downtown Brussels,
the village should pay for snow
removal in front of his property.
Clerk Bill, King said the
, concensus of council Was that the
village had an obligation to
remove snow from the core area
"and that stretches from the
bridge south to the Legion".
Snow is removed in front of all
'businesses along the main portion
of Turnberry St., because it can
seriously interfere with downtown
parking, Clerk King said. Legion
parking overflows in front of and
onto McCuttheon Motors
property.
Councillors felt that once the
village started removing snow for
businesses outside the central
downtown, things could get out of
hand, with all businesses
scattered through the village
asking for the same service.
Reeve Jack McCutcheon told
councillors that he had learned in
a meeting in Toronto that 65 other
municipalities had their requests
for sewers in ahead of Brussels.
After council signed , an
agreement to start on sewers at'
the beginning of the Year, the
province announced a year and a
half of postponement because of
lack of funds.
The reeve said if the agreement
had been signed in December,
Brussels might have gotten in
ahead ..of the others or even
started in 1977. CoSts will'be up,
but the ministry can't tell by how
much, he said.
