So here I am -- one person. But

who feel as I do. So what can we
do about it? I have no idea-- but I

Women have always wanted to
be able to improve or beautify
themselves. Cosmetics have been
the answer. They are substances
which will not cause any physical
change but • - will promote
attractiveness. There. are
some things ..you should
remember and look for when
you purchase cosmetics, just as
you 'do when buying food • or
clothes.
Y ou should make sure• when
bloying mascara, that you're
getting the eye lash covering and
not .the lash extenders. Mascara
which covers the lashes is just a.
colouring but lash extenders
contain fuzz which makes . the
lashes thicker. This could , be
harmful to people who wear
contact .lenses. In applying
mascara, be sure'n.ot to get it in
your eyes,. be sure you have
nothing on your hands and be
especially careful not to poke the
mascara applicator in y our eye,
since it could damage your eye.
You can get lipstick which are
indelible or just lip colouring. The
lip colouring is preferable since
the indelible lipstick may cause
irritation to your lips. Y our best
buy would be the non-allergenic
lipstick.
Eye shadows can sometimes be
harmful if they contain abrasives,
which could get in y our eye and
cause damage. The only thing,
therefore, to remember when
in this particular part of
winter carnival, There were- ki

skirts on backwards, socks a
necklaces turned around, as
even with jeans on back-to-fro
(these students found getting

This year, an "old fashioned"
winter has hit the town of
Wingham, bringing with it joys,
disillusions and many disappoint-
ments.
Disappointment is:
— The greater part of the
Winter ' Carnival cancelled
because of too much snow.
— Waking up in the morning to
snow and howling winds only to
find that -every school in the area
is closed except F.E.Madill S.S.
- Shivering in one frigid
classroom, and looking forward to
the next "Warm" class, only to
find you caw see y our breath in
there too.
Leaving your car in the
parking lot in the morning and at
night' finding it has disappeared;
then realizing that that great
mound of white is the vicinity

Madill was badly outplayed in the
first half but cam eon strong in

had proved to be too in uch to
overcome.
Top scorers were - Brent
Johnston and Steven Burke.
Senior Boys
The senior boys also • played
Seaforth on Tuesday and came up.
with a winning score. They
overpowered Seaforth 44-37
despite a, late charge by Seaforth.
Strong rebounding - by John
Underwood and the fast break
scoring of Ralph and Rodger
Motrison sealed the victory. High
scorers were Rodger Morrison
with 16 and John Underwood with
10.

Junior Girls
On Tuesday, at Clinton, the
Juniors defeated their first
opponents, Exeter, in • two
straight games, 15-13, 17-15. As
indicated by -the scores, the
games were close and exciting.
The next game, matched

The closing of area hospitals is
a major issue right now one that
affects every one of us. Last week
I thought "Well that's progress..
Then this week; I suddenly
found that I faced a series of tests
at the hospital — and at once the
hospital became a very important
place. •
I was scared. When I entered
the front doors I felt my legs
shaking under me. Then, at the
reception • desk, I was greeted
with a great big smile. This helped
a lot, but what really gave me a
little bit of courage was the fact
that the receptionist didn't have
to ask me who my dad was or
where I lived. She already knew,
I went on to the emergency
department and there the nurses
recognized me -- These were
people who had looked after the
rest of my family. They soon had
me laughing and relaxed. I felt as
. if I was among friends.
The whole day -- A clay I had
dreaded -- turned out to be a
pretty good experience. You soon
forget pain and discomfort when
you are surrounded by familiar
friendly faces.There was a
warmth that is hard to describe --
the warmth people , who care for
people, helping people.
This made me stop and think
•how I would feel if suddenly I
couldn't go to a hospital in a
major centre, although I'm sure
the nurses and doctors would be
as friendly, it just wouldn't be the
same as being cared for by people
I know.
I think that most people realize
this. Now that I have-discovered
it, I no longer feel that closing

Employees will be given help
to find jobs, the health minister
said. About 110 people work at
the hospital, about one third of
them part time, which has a
aayroll of about $14,000 a week. It
is Clinton's largest employer.
Past hospital board chairman
jliob Campbell said the decision
"smells of politics" and is setting
"one small town against
another."
The Clinton Public Hospital
board under chairman Art Aiken
and Clinton's town council
headed by Mayor Don Symons
are planning protests and briefs
on the provincial government's
move to close the hospital.

Carnival Kick Off
. The assembly to kick off the
winter carnival was held Tuesday
morning, a day late because of
the menacing sleet. Nevertheless,:
this did not temper the
enthusiasm of the student body.
The co-hosts of the program
was Biff Barf and his side-kick,
who .brought back the nostalgic
moments of past carnivals.

Despite tradition, it looks like
we'll have snow, too much, in fact
if the CKNX weather reports are
where you left it.
— When CKNX predicts a fine
spring clay and it turns out to be a
blizzard.
— Being stormed stayed for
three whole clays without your
hooks, and coming to find you're
having a test that clay.
— A snow storm on Friday
night and not being able to get
out until Monday.
— The view from Mr.
Morrison's English r000m —
snow all the way up the windows.
— Riding on a late bus and
hoping that you'll' miss the math
test first period, only to find that y
on arrive ten minutes late and
you still have to, write the tests.
— Hearing that all the other
bus es are leaving early because
of the blizzard, and yours doesn't
come until the regular time
