Local Legion contest for Remembrance Day. All the essays were written on the topic of Remembrance Day. The essay won first prize and was then put on into the District contest. At the District contest it won first prize. The next step up was the Zone contest where,she also won first prize. Altogether Patsy has :--received $25.00 for her efforts. Wanda Ball. Last November Janice, McMichael wrote a poem • which was entered in the Local Legion Contest for Remembrance Day. It won first prize and was put on to the District Contest. In the Ditrict Contest Janice won $5.00 for second prize. Altogether Janice received $10.00 for her efforts. Congratulations go out to both Patsy and Janice who not only brought honour to themselves but to our schbol as well. Jann Gowdy Valentine's Day Assembly The students's in Mrs.' Smith's room 19 presented an enjoyable assembly to the teachers and students of Flowick Central on Friday,, February 13th. Watching this assembly were a number of parents. The students acted out little television skits such as Happy 'Days, Flintstones, Pea, nuts, Gilligan"s Island, Chico and the Man, and a number of T.V. commercials while they • were changing sets. Yes, it was a very enjoyable assembly and I noticed everyone left with a smiling face. Mary Lou Clarke Mrs. Nixon's Accident Mrs. 'Payne is looking quite busy. She has assumed the hectic job of being a part-time and full-tirrie secretary and at the same time is looking after the two typing elective groups. She is • taking the place of Mrs. Nixon, our full-time secretary, who fell on the ice after coming out of the Hair Dresser's and broke her leg in two places. We hope that she is getting well and will be back to school soon. Janna Gowdy key Roads On Wedne§day February 19 icey roads 'gave the bOses prob- lems in getting to school. The snow has been ;Melting now in the mild weather but iee is 'now the , big problem for the bus drivers. On ;Wednesday bus , number 11 was one hour late due to the icey roads, and all the busdrivers are wanting the ice to melt off the roads. Brock Howes Professional Activity Day On February 25, 1976 a, Profes- sional Activity Day is planned for Howick Central School. What is clone during this day will be a discussion based on two of the latest Ministry of Education Guidelines entitled "Primary and . Junior Education", and "The Formative Years.". Three . staff members will_ be attending a workshop at Exeter Public School which will be a session on - Communication Skills. If' there are no more school cancellations on account of the weather, there may be more professional activity days as •originally planned. Ben Schuitema Flue Stikes Howick In addition' to some 'of the students that have been adsbnt from school with the flu, a number of teacher have too. Mrs. Kirkby's song brought it from Seaforth and she in turn brought it to the •Flowick teachers. On February' 12 Mrs: Kirkby left school and remained at home the rest of the week., Mrs. Stretton, Mrs. Szarek, Mr. Doubleday and Mr. Farnell have all missed a few clays from school too. We are all ,hoping the teachers will soon be in full force again. Wanda Ball Spin-rite Trip On Feb,. 19 the Junior Crochet Elective led by Mrs. Kerr went to Spin Rite factory in,Listowel. The tour laSted approximately one hour. The class'saw the combing, carding, and drying of real wool. The class also saw a yarn made out of a synthetic material. Mrs, Kerr said they were welcomed and wished to thank, everyone at Spin-Rite. .I'am certain that students and teacher alike enjoy- ed the trip.
