One of the fastest ways you
can save money is with a
"SMART" Retirement Savings
Plan. Promise.
But there are two more reasons
why you should open a SMART
Plan today.
The earlier in your life you
open a Plan, the more money you'll have later. The
difference .is in the length of time you give your
savings to collect interest. If, for instance, you
started saVing $50 a month at age 25'instead of $
per triorith at age. 45, and your investment ear
ned
ne'
7% net interest, your retirement
savings could be $128,000
instead of $51,000 at age 65.*
The second reason is an even
more immediate one. If you
open a SMART Plan by March
1st, you can deduct your
SMART contributions from your
1975 taxable income.
Save Money Arid Reduce Taxes by March 1st. Get
SMART at any Commerce branch near you.
*the difference is the compounding effect of net interest paid
semi-annually over 40 years or 20 years.

Mr. Miller told reporters that it
was true the decision to close
Clinton Public was made without
looking at associated costs, the
effect on the community and ' its
tax base and the social costs.
"But my job is health," he
said, not the economy of the
whole province.
The minister challenged the
Clinton Hospital board to come up
with an alternative way of saving
the $800,004 that he said closing
the hospital would mean.
. He said some of their
arguments for keeping the
ho4ital open are good ones but
"geography can be argued both
ways." While Clinton is at the
centre of the county it is also `close
to two other hospitals, Seaforth
and Goderich, he said
There won't be ward closings
or bed reductions in any of the
other hospitals in Huron, the
minister said. "With this closure
(CPFI) we are close to the saving
in dollars that we need here."
Mr. Miller acknowledged that

the impact of his decision "but if
it was not this one, it had to be

minister did not answer questions
about why Clinton will be closed
instead of Exeter.
"It's not what's good for
Clinton but what's good for the
whole county," that has to be
considered, he said. Health
authorities would have had to

the county to make the same

beds in Clinton, the minister said.
Mr. Miller said hospitals and
community representatives could
appeal to him and Premier
William DAvis. "What are, the
chances of Clinton staying

high", the minister replied.
The hospital building would
